    1. [TXWISE-L] Elias Boyd & family, MO/TX/OK c.1870-1900
    2. Elias Boyd was born 8 July, 1827 in Franklin Co., MO (near St. Louis), son of Ephraim and Jemima Boyd. He died at Oakland, Indian Territory (now Marshall Co., OK) 24 May, 1894. He was a captain in the Union Army, Co. H, 50th Regiment, Missouri Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War. The unit was known as the "Elias Boyd Co." and may have been a "home guard" type unit composed mostly of middle aged men and saw little if any combat or known casualties. In rural Franklin Co., Elias was a small time farmer and justice of the peace. Elias Boyd was married to Sarah Jane Alexander on 11 May, 1848 or 1849. She was born 18 Feb, 1833 in MO and died in TX in Dec.,1881. Elias Boyd, his wife and children, various sons and daughters-in-law and grandchildren left their family farms in Grubville, Franklin Co., MO on 4 Nov, 1879. They traveled by wagon train, always stopping by noon on Saturday to prepare for observing the Sabbath on Sunday. They would attend a local church when possible. Upon arriving in Wise County ,Texas, Elias purchased a farm near Decatur, the county seat. This farm was sold c. 1884/85 and again travelling by wagon train, Elias and part of his family group resettled in Denison, Grayson Co., TX. In the fall of 1887, most of them set out again by wagon train ferrying across the Red River to Oakland, Indian Territory where they settled on farms. Elias lived there until his death with son James Edwin Boyd and son Tom and wife Amanda ("Mandy"). This account was provided by Sheri Chaffin Weir and was written by Tom and Mandy Boyd's daughter Lavinna ("Vinnie") Boyd Hillman c. 1956. It was supplemented by the research of Michael Boyd BOYD, Elias (8 July, 1827 Franklin Co., MO - 24 May, 1894 Oakland, Marshall Co., OK ) Father: BOYD, Thomas Mother: JOHNS, Mary Marriage: 11 May 1848 to ALEXANDER, Sarah Jane Children: BOYD, Mary M. 1850 MO BOYD, Thomas Martin 17 Feb 1856 MO Louisann/Louisa Ann (?) abt. 1861 MO BOYD Otto Elias abt. 1861 MO BOYD, Nora abt. 1866 MO BOYD, James Edwin abt. 1872 MO BOYD, Nora (?) The BOYD family group that relocated from MO to N'East TX., C.1878-79 also included Elias Boyd's brothers Marion F. BOYD and George Alston BOYD. Looking for further info and descendents of all. Michael Boyd St. Louis, MO

    1. Re: [TXWISE-L] Finding Grandmothers Family!
    2. Lynn, To answer your first question we do not know my grandmothers name, she was adopted in the early 1920's by a family named Chaney. But I feel strongly that there has got to be decendents ofher family around. And I am trying to find pieces to the puzzle. Now to the little girl, yes we would be related, not directly but are related. The Stracener family is realitivley small approx .3500 that I have researched ,and came from the same family. Thankyou for your responce, Richard Stracener

    2. Mary Wendland
    3. In tracking my BAIN family from AL to TX, including Wise County at one point, have gotten possibly directed to AR, and have tried through the AR Gen Web to get answers, but have little to go on other than family names and probable dates following the Civil War. My BAIN family lived in TX at that time, but served in AL unit(s?), and the family I am looking for all seemed to disappear after the 1860 TX census, except my g gfather John A. BAIN. When I did a US GenWeb search, and inserted their names, some of the same names came up on AR sites, and they were listed on Confederate Applications for Pension, and "AR State Donation and Swamp Land Sales." It was noted " veteran need not have served in an AR unit in order to recieve a pension from AR," in regards to ordering a pension application, and I'm clear on that to a certain extent as far as applying for it, but if someone could explain the land terminology, I would be very happy and appreciative. This list is such a treasure for hands on Listers and Listees, really hope some one can clue this dense mind in. Thanking anyone for any help! Mary BAIN Wendland
