    3. Joyce, I did a lookup for you from: Birth Records Wise County Texas, 1864-1902 by Julian G. Allen, publ. by Julian G. Allen 1986, Austin Texas. In my experience only about 10% of the births in this period were reported. page 134 Joseph Wilson Hanner (b. GA) and Phiola Thedocia Leverett (b. AR) had a child: Frances Almarie Hanner, b. Aug 3, 1889, F, Alvord (reg. # 21214) Joseph Wilson Hanner (b. AL) and Ola Leverett (b. GA) had a child: Gideon Wilson Hanner, b. Feb 13, 1888, M, Avlord ( reg. # 28112) Joseph Wilson Hanner (b. GA) and Thiola Theodocia Leverett (b. AR) had a child: Mandy Emmerline Hanner, b. Feb 8, 1895, F, Alvord (reg. # 12790) Joseph Wilson Hanner, (b. AL) and Phiola Theodothia Leverett (b. GA) had a child: Sarah Anna Hanner, b. June 4, 1892, F. Alvord (reg. # 29466) Looks like they really struggled with Theodosia's name. Good Luck! 2. I just discovered your web page on Wise County, TX. My mom was born in Decatur in 1906. She was the youngest of 10 kids. Their family was extremely poor and it is very hard to trace them. A large number of 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th generations still live in the area. They range from Sunset, to Boyd, Alvord and Decatur. Some years ago a niece of mine got a copy of the history of Wise County and we were surprised that only one of the Hanner kids were in there. My grandfather's name was Joseph Wilson Hanner and he was married to Phiola Theodosia Ernest Leverett. I think the family name was Hanna, but due to being from Alabama, when they pronounced Hanna it came out Hanner. My grandfather couldn't read or write. If you happen to run across any information on this family I would appreciate a copy of it. Living in Tulsa, OK I don't get down that way but once a year for a family reunion. It's always so hot that I don't feel like getting out and around. Do you think I could find some information at the Wise County Historical building? If so I might be persuaded to make a trip down there. Sincerely, Joyce Crawford

    1. [TXWISE-L] FYI -- Food for thought from another list
    2. Did your elderly mother-in-law that lives with you mention that some nice person came around and she gave them your information? Is your neighbor that you never talk to the only one who is always in the neighborhood? They reported your information for you. Enumerators usually do the best that they can, but too many people slam the door in your face saying "I'm not telling the government anything" and too many neighbors have no idea how many children you have, let alone their names and ages. So in 2010, Americans, give that enumerator a break, be as helpful as you can or refer them to the other neighbor who knows more about the missing family than you do. Your descendants will thank you for it.

    3. Norma, if you will go to: www.rootsweb.com and choose the World Connect option. Then type in Warren and Isom, you will find numerous listings for Isom. It shows several spouses on some of the listing. Some have show which of his children are by which wife. I am not certain of much about Druscilla, but if you need any info on her daughter, Saphronia B. WOMACK, I do have info on her and her descendants. I will be happy to share what I know. If I uncover any other contacts or info on Druscilla, I will also share it with you. You might also consider contacting some of the postings of the lines at the Rootsweb site. They might have good info for you or some other researchers to contact also. There were WARREN descendants in the Greenwood area in Wise Co that I knew as a child. I imagine they tied in with Isom's group. 3. Norma, check on the posting by Barbara Claiborne on Rootsweb at: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:2605529&id=I542435609 This posting shows Isom's first wife and family and then his family with second wife, Druscilla Patton. Druscilla's daughter, Safronia B. WOMACK, is who you see listed with them as age 18 in the 1880 census. Safronia married my gg uncle, Joseph McNEELY. We also believe that Druscilla might have later married one of Joseph's uncles. Hope this helps. 2. If you are trying to find something from the orphanage in Fort Worth it is now the Gladney Home. My grandfather was adopted out of the home in Fort Worth in 1915 by a family named Brown. His biological name was Richardson, and did not know he had been adopted until World War II, after he had been married and all his children were born. He was 7 at the time of his adoption. His father died in 1913 and his mother put them in the home since she could not take care of them. I called and then wrote to the Gladney home and was able to obtain some info from them concerning physical condition and death date of my great-grandfather. My great-grandmother later remarried and had several daughters by 2nd husband. My grandfather Earl Richardson Brown also died in Corpus Christi where we were raised by him and my grandmother. Good luck in your search. Deborah Magnolia TX

Have you checked the births on record for that date? Of course all were not recorded but my mother's brothers & sisters who were born at Paradise are listed in that book and they were born in the late 1800s. There is a copy at the museum I think. You might even be able to purchase a copy there. Who placed her in the orphanage? Wanda in Seymour in the great State of TEXAS, USA

I haven't researched those names. I'm sure she has tried the following: www.ancestry.com ; www.familytreemaker.com ; www.rootsweb.com ; www.familysearch.com ; www.gencircles.com and other sites. Aunt Janet I am seeking information about Kathryn (Kay/Katie) Turner, formerly (possibly still?) of Grapevine, TX. My maternal grandfather (Frank William Roepke) married Julia C. (Furton) Martin in Manhattan, KS in 1953 after his first wife died. Julia was the mother of Kathryn Frances Martin and sons Ernie, Garvin, and Edwin. Kathryn married Norman Turner and they had a daughter, Linda. In 1966, Julia wrote me that Linda had just had a daughter, Traci Linn. Unfortunately she did not mention Linda's married name or where she lived. She did give an address for Kay in Wichita KS but when Julia died in 1967 the obituary said Kay was from Grapevine, TX. After Julia's death, our family lost contact with her children by her first marriage. Although I read this list religiously to learn about my paternal grandmother's family (Rays and Holts), I never thought I would find another connection to Wise County. I am hoping that someone who reads this list will know of Kay or her husband Norman or her daughter Linda and help me re-establish contact with them. I am preparing a new family history on the Roepke family and would like nothing better than to be able to include updated information and photos of Kay and her family. The only photos I have of them are ones that my father, Ed Schrock, took of them during the late 1940's probably. Julia adopted all 33 of her stepgrandchildren as though they were her own, and we loved her dearly. She was the only grandmother I knew on that side of the family. I have learned recently that Kay's brother Garvin died a few years ago, as did her brother Ernie. But I am unable to find Kay, Norman, or Linda. Please contact me if you have any information that would help me, or suggestions about how to find them. Perhaps someone on the list lives in or near Grapevine and has heard of them? 3. If the person you are searching for is deceased, you can usually find their date of birth in the Social Security Death Index. You can also search cemetery records or order a copy of her death certificate. Online birth records for Texas don't begin until 1926.
