    2. I agree, too. I have never been turned down by them nor do they seem to wish I hadn't asked! One of the websites I frequent had a message they would do lookups for a cemetery that is not on-line. When I made a request I was told that I had to make the request on the form provided. I still haven't found the form! Thanks for making your site so "user friendly". LaFon Stone Commander

Thank you for all your work and dedication. Janet Gough McMurray Without a doubt you folks are the best genealogy related site I have ever encountered. Kudos to all involved in the work that you do there in Wise County. My only regret is that more of my ancestors did not stop there along the way. Shirley, Fresno Ca.

    2. I, also, am very appreciative for ALL that has been done and accomplished on the Wise County website. I don't think you all know how much you've done to forward our Wise County ancestors' family history research for those of us who are quite a distance away from Wise County and can't make frequent trips that direction. The cemetery listings, funeral home records, the available census images, etc., all work together to fill in the "puzzle pieces". Thanks so much for all your hard work!!! Take Care, Sallie R. 3. I also agree that the Wise Co, TX information provided "free of charge" is the best available anywhere. To show your thanks, I'd suggest you join the Wise County Historical Society. It only cost $10 per year to become a member, and I'm sure they would accept more. Wise County Heritage Museum Mrs. Rosalie Gregg, Director 1602 S. 1. [TXWISE-L] FYI
    2. U.S. enumerators were suppose to record the household's information as of the official census day -- not the actual date of the enumeration. Of course, we have no way of knowing who followed these instructions and who did not. However, the official census days were: First Monday in August for 1790-1820 schedules June 1 for 1830-1880 First Monday in June for 1890 (most of this schedule was destroyed or badly damaged by a fire in 1921) June 1 for 1900 April 15 for 1910 January 1 for 1920 April 1, for 1930 For more about census records see RootsWeb's Guide to Tracing Family Trees on the subject: http://rwguide.rootsweb.com/lesson9.htm

Or when she does come here, she will have a starting point for her search. I can't find any record of them having a headstone. Nell

Some of the handwriting is really bad. thanks for letting us know you use them, La Darla

    3. I think it's great that you are transcribing the census records for Wise County. Do you plan on doing this with the 1900 and 1910 census records? These contain a little more information than the other census records do and the genealogy sites that have them available for viewing, do not have them indexed. The only way to find ANYONE is to spend days/weeks/months waiting for them to download and then reading through page after page. I certainly hope you plan on transcribing those records. Thanks for doing a great job! 3. LaDarla and I have a new project (a big one). We are trying to transcribe the 1930 Wise County Census. I did Decatur Township, and she did the Boonsville area. Then she ran into trouble doing Bridgeport Township. The handwriting was real hard to read, so I did 1920 Bridgeport Township (which was also hard to read). After we finished both, we sorted them by last name and compared the families. We checked all the names against each other and also checked the cemetery records. There's still LOTS OF ERRORS, especially with the Hispanic names that we're not very familiar with. There's an alphabetical index by last and first names for the 1920 and 1930 completed enumeration districts, and then tables of all the data. Several pages are on the web with the home page (Wise County Census Extracts) = http://www.wf.net/~drycreek/index.htm It's interesting to look at the occupations. 1930 Decatur had lots of college teachers at the Baptist College, and Bridgeport had lots of coal miners who lived in mining camp #1 and #2. There were lots of people from Syria and other countries in Bridgeport in 1920 and 1930. Check these pages out (we hope to add more soon) and let us know about errors you find in the families. When we finish the project, we'll print these tables and indexes out for the libraries, museum, etc. Sue
