This is a little off Topic, and hope you don't mind me asking it. I'm traveling to my family reunion the 30th of June, returning home July 7th. I was wondering if the Museum and the Court House will observe the 4th of July on Monday July 5th? I was hoping to stop by and do some research on my VERY elusive Dromgoole relatives that lived in Alvord in the late 1800's. I just asked the question to know if I should plan on the 1st of July, on my way down, or the 5th on my way back north. Thanks for in advance for an answer! You do a wonderful job on your site for Wise County. It is still the best I have seen! I notice the County Clerk has birth records from 1864. They charge a certain amt. for copies. How can I find out if the births I am looking for are there before I send the money, or what do I do? I want copies for any children born with the name of Hopwood as the surname. Thanks, Joan
I believe that Rosalie Gregg replied to the TXWise-L instead of directly to Frances McBee and that is why everyone is getting her reply. Julie
I do think the messages got crossed. I was looking for something on Dr. J. M. Standifer as his 3rd daughter Julia Caroline was my great great grandmother. I was trying to prove records to see if I was eligible for the Daughters of the Republic. Have a super day, Pat Scott
Frances, I will be working at the museum this aftaernoon. I will search the Messenger. I think you got my email address mixed up with someone elses. This message was not from me. However... I did subscribe to an email newsletter at this address. Also, if you are associated with drycreek@wf.net .... I sent a couple of emails requesting funeral home records and photos of headstones both in Wise County so hopefully you will come across my emails. Thank you! Patricia, We find the history of Dr. Standifer in our Volume I, "History of Wise County...A Link with the Past." The cost will be $4.00, we will mail post paid on receipt of payment. 1926 was the year I was born, I would like to see that paper. Billy Albritton
Do you have access to the Wise County Messenger for 1926? I have always wanted to know if there was a writeup about my parents wedding on December 17, 1926. They were married in a public wedding on the lawn of the Wise County courthouse. I was told by my parents that this was sponsored by the merchants in Decatur. My father (William Dolphie "Doc" Hillin) was teaching school at Needmore at the time, and his students were trying to find out who was getting married. Daddy claimed comlete ignorance. Mother was Virginia Ferrold Walker, the daughter of County Commissioner Henry Walker. They were married for 75 years. Would be great to find an article about it. Enjoy the e mails!
Hi: I am a descendent of Dr. J. M. Standifer who was the first Doctor in Wise County. His third daughter Julia Caroline was my grandmother many years ago. I am currently working on DRT papers and would appreciate any help with this. Thank you, Patricia Walker Scott 398 Fenwick Drive San Antonio, Texas 78239 210-590-0336
I do not know, any of those name, you listed. I did not keep up with the Sparks family. I sure those people you call my attention too, are from the William Berry Sparks family. Billy
I have a copy of a page from the "Index to 1890 Wise County Rolls", by Catherine Gonzales. It shows RISH (?), N.H. (5) 16. I am assuming it means Tax Records Volume 5 page 16. However, I am not certain of that. Would anyone be able to do a lookup for me to find information on N.H. Rish and or his wife Matilda? Thank you. William Berry Sparks, was my great grandfather. I know some Beesons in Bridgeport, but I was not kin to them. Doctor Will Sparks was my mothers Uncle. Billy
Hi Billy Albritton, Do the names Esther Sparks and Emmett (Doc) Beeson mean anything to you. I remember my Auntie speaking of the Albrittons often almost as she was speaking of kin. Thank you, Cheryl Paul
QUERY MARTIN, William Henry (b. Sept. 1855, TN) married MEDLIN, Martha Elizabeth "Lizzie" (b. Sept. 1867, KS) on Sept. 1, 1891 in Alvord, TX. They had five children; John Roy, Thomas Floyd, Hugh M., Vonita M, and "Jim"; all born in Alvord area. They moved their family to Cleveland County, OK between 1905 and 1909. Henry and Lizzie are buried in Mars Hill Cemetery, Pottawatomie County, OK. Any information would be appreciated, but especially interested in Henry's background. Leon Martin (leonmartin@swbell.net)
Thank you D. A.. My Blantons were Presbyterians and I thank you for helping me scratch off one avenue in my search. Perhaps Dr. Jacob Blanton was a minister in the Cumberland Presbyterian church. I will certainly try to check that out. Cheryl
Thanks, for the info. Billy Albritton
