Years ago, I came across a unique record in Red River county, in their deed book, where William Fullingim relinquished his infant son, Mat (Matthew?) for adoption to Henry and Nancy Farmer. From other information, we know that William's 2nd wife was Martha Runnells, and that William was about 53 yrs old in 1868. This adoption seems to confirm that his wife had recently died, and William was not able to raise this child. While William died in Red River county, several of his siblings wound up in Wise county... and so did Henry and Nancy Farmer. Henry and Nancy are listed as charter members of Oak Grove church, which was established in 1878 by E.C. Fullingim and Jim Smith. Unfortunately, I have misplaced my notes, but I know that Mat married sometime before 1900, and was also divorced. The divorce record was found at the Wise county courthouse, as well as a will by Mat Farmer, in which he names his parents, Henry and Nancy Farmer... also leaving something to his son, HENRY FARMER. I don't have a confirmed name/marriage for him... the divorce record shows "Dollie". There is a marriage in Jan 1897 of a M.W. Farmer and Nancy Callihan... I don't know if this is the right marriage or not. Thanks to the fantastic records from the Wise county website, I located further info last night. Both Matt and his adoptive father, Henry, are buried at Greenwood cemetery (not far from where Oak Grove was originally built). From that, we now have Mat's original date of birth as 30 April 1868, and that he died in Oct, 1904. the stone reads Mattie, which might confuse some, since he isn't a female. Father Henry died within a few months... Nancy is not shown as buried there, although it is likely. I was also able to read the 1900 census record, confirming that Mat was divorced, living w/ his parents. Nancy shows that she is the mother of one child, one child living... so there are no siblings that I can follow. There are two or three Henry Farmers in the SSDI that might fit this time frame, but I can't confirm either one. I'd like to confirm what happened to Henry Farmer (Mat's son), and if he left any family. (am posting to both the Fullingim list, and Wise county list). Any help is appreciated. Wendy

Julie, I am also researching my Terry family from AL to TX. William S. and his brother John Stringer Terry and families moved to Denton Co. TX after 1873 from Bullock and Pike Co. AL. They were in the 1880 Denton Co. TX census. My GGGM Mary Elizabeth Terry married Thomas Moses Boswell in AL. He is buried in Denton Co. and she in Sweetwater Cemetery, Sweetwater, TX. Thanks. Barnes.....This family was enumerated in the 1880 census of Wise County, Texas. (Simeon was the oldest son of Bennet C. Barnes and Sara A Barnes, born ca 1849 in Hopkins County Texas. Enumerated in Hopkins in 1850, Enumerated in Wise County in 1860, Sara A and Children were in Hopkins county for the 1870 census but Bennet was missing. In 1880, Sara and children were in Wise county living not too far from Simeon R (S. R.) and his family) Simeon R. b. 1849 died ?????? Nancy C. ????????????????? in the 1870 census of Hopkins Co., Simeon and Nancy and Sara are in Hopkins Co. In 1880 they are back in Wise Co.... They sure made a lot of trips to Hopkins and Wise counties....Maybe they were avoiding the Comanche/Kiowa raiding....? I got a note saying that an S. Barnes was killed in a battle with the Comanche in Jack County.....Do you know of a date of that skirmish? Do you have any info on the death of Bennet C. Barnes between 1870 and 1880? The Museum hours are Monday and Friday 9:30 until 3:30, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday they are 9 A.M. until 4 P.me. The Museum houses the Genealogical Archives for Wise County. We have Funeral Records, Cemetery Records, Newspaper from 1880 until present on Microfilm, Census records on microfilm from 1860 until 1930, family files and books, and we have research from other states. Passenger listings, and a lot more. The Courthouse is from 8 until 5. Steve, you might call the county records office and see if they can do a lookup. I have been there and everything is in old handwritten books. They might be able to find something for you and for a fee, send you copies. I believe that copies are $1.00 a page as the pages are quite large. I hope this helps! I'll send you this funeral record in separate email. It's from Christian Funeral home in Decatur, Wise County, TX. There's lots of information on it and even an obituary attached. Looks like he was buried in Clarksville. That's not in Wise County. Is that near Wichita Falls? Hopes this helps you figure out if he's a relative.
