My faternal grandparents were born in Wise County. My Grandmother - Carrie Ellen West Minor - was born March 2, 1901 in Bridgeport near the Eastside Cemetary. My Grandfather - Charles Simmons Minor, Sr. was born August 30, 1898. Their parents were Willie Enere Parrish Minor and Joseph Martin Minor. Willie Minor died on March 2, 1947 in Bridgeport and Joe Minor died around 1911 near Olney, Texas. The other side was Laura Ellen Sullins West and Samuel Martin West. I believe Sam West died May 18, 1935 and Laura West died in May of 1947. I don't know aunts and uncles names or when they were born. I am hoping I can find some information. Carolyn Minor Neal
Looks like she died in Wise County according to the Texas Death Index, but I don't see her in the cemetery index. Maybe somebody at the Wise County Historical Society can do a lookup for an obit. I found your email address through a Yahoo search on the Internet. I have found found a possible clue to my family history associated with Wise County. I am writting to ask for your assistance in finding someone who might assist me in following up on the clue. My great-great-great-great grandfather's brother was murdered in the Goliad Massacre during the Texas Revolution. As a result of his settling in Texas, serving in the Revolution, and being killed at Goliad, his estate was awarded some 2500+ acres of land in Texas. I have requested and recieved copies of all the records available from the Texas General Land Office concerning the estate. The land was apparently in Archer County. However, in the GLO records it was noted that a power of attorney from the file was released for use in a lawsuit in Wise County in the 1870's. I'm am searching for someone who might help me in checking the Wise County records to see if any of the data might identify parents, siblings, or children. Can you point me to someone who might be able to help? Any advice you might provide will be sincerely appreciated. Yours truly Steve Richards P.O. Box 188 Harvest,Al 35749 Ph 256-771-1562

My cousin just emailed me the following: Of interest-----In the September 2004 issue of Texas Highways, Pg. 33 on Hamburgers; it says "Best places to enjoy them today? Standing up at Kincaid's Grocery in Fort Worth, and at Wise County's Greenwood Grocery, northeast of Decatur, where old westerns are always playing on TV." Besides being a picturesque community and a place I dearly love, Greenwood does have great hamburgers at the Greenwood Grocery Store. I highly recommend them. They are like the good hamburgers you had years ago! If you are in the Greenwood area, stop in "downtown" for a hamburger. Sheryl McNeely Shaw sjmcs@earthlink.net

Group, There was a young lady who called the Museum day before yesterday concerning the Mitchum Family. While we were talking the phone when dead because we had an electrician working and he turned the breaker off that the phone was plugged into. I want to apologize and do hope she does not think I hung up on her. I had not got to write her name or information down. I believe it was concerning some unidentified photos. However, she did say that she and Alta Mitchum had been corresponding but had not made a connection. Again if she is watching this site I do hope she will accept my apologize and contact us again. If you haven't been by the museum lately you will be surprised at the changes and improvements I hope. We have a contractor now working on the rock work on the outside, repointing and completely rebuilding a Gable that had starting to lean some. The restroom inside are almost completed, enlarging them. We now have a small kitchen area in our office. Painting and hope to soon be back to normal in the Archives after having to move things to paint and reconstruct the conference room. We have two gentlemen who have volunteered a lot of time working at the Museum and without their help we would not be as far along as we have come. Most of all we would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has donated money and used our Archives, bought our books and the encouragement to continue work.
