I don't know either. I know Joseph Martin Minor was born around 1870-73. He was younger than Willie Enerie Parrish Minor, his wife. He committed suicide near Olney at his mother's home. I beieve that happened around 1911. His mother must have been widowed. When my father was little (he was born in 1922) she was still alive and so was her second husband. My great-grandmother's last name was Junker.(second marriage name) I know Mr. Junker was German. I know JM Minor had siblings, but I don't know their names. All the relatives I know of from that side were my grandfather's maternal ones. (The Parrish family) The "Martin" makes me wonder if they are not related. Could you look for Joseph Martin Minor and Willie Enerie Parrish. They were married and had four boys; Charles S. 8-30-98, Albert in 1899 04 1900 and Fred around 1905. There was a fourth son, Walter who died before 1910. My Wests were in Tarrant County in the 1860s. They were not on the 1850 census.of Wise County. ----- Original Message ----- From: "David E. Hello Carla: I am so sorry to ready about the breakin at the Museum. It just tears me out of the frame to read about it. We have a house next to us, originally belonged to our daughter--it was empty, waiting on renovations--so what happens? Some vandals broke into it one weekend, and destroyed a lot of things in it--breaking windows out, tearing off doors, pouring paint on the carpet, breaking glass out of the pellet fireplace door, and the kitchen oven door--totaling about $25 to $30 thousand dollars--the sheriff is investigating, but no one has been caught as yet--and guess what? Our insurance doesn't cover it--since it had been empty over 60 days and since it was vandalized-can you imagine that? My husband says that if we remodel it now--and rent it out--we would never recover the cost of it--in our lifetime since we are senior citizens!!! Discouraging, isn't? I can imagine that it is even more disheartening to you and yours--it is to me, and I think the people who did that deserves whatever punishment they get-- All our thoughts and prayers are for your encouragement and let us hear about the work going on it. My last visit to the museum was in June. I just returned from Ft Worth this past sunday and had wanted to visit the museum, but ran out of time. My mother, her sister and three brothers (Ira Stepp Family) graduated from there and years later my brother, sister and I played around there before it became a museum. I am glad my Uncle Marshall got to visit and spend time there two years ago. I feel like my own house was vandalized. I have and want to contribute to the restoration of the museum. Sincerely, Betty
I was just at the museum this past June. It was so interesting to see what you all have done with the old building. My family, the Hanner family (all 10 of them) were all born and raised there in the Decatur area. My parents were married there in the court house in 1924. The court house and the museum buildings are so unique to Decatur. It's such a shame to have to replace the things that you all had there. Some of them of course can't be replaced. My personal home has been burglarized twice so I can sympathize with your feelings of loss. Joyce Crawford

Janet We had just gotten the computer back after being in the shop for two weeks because of a virus on Friday. Had not back up before that for fear I would only recontaminate the computer. Had not had a chance to back what we had up. I think we have most of it on a CD. Luckily we do not put a lot of data on it. We had quite a few e-mails that we were answering but had a copy of the letters on paper. Donations are always greatly appreciated as we work strickly from donations and what we sell, and our Archives where we do research for individuals. We are checking on the insurance. We have a problem getting insurance because of being a Museum in a building at was built in 1892. If we read the policy right we may have a $2500.00 deductible. We appreciate everyones concern. Opened several doors without keys, windows that wouldn't open, most horrible of all they broke into The Lost Battalion Room. Please address your e mail messages for the museum to: _carwom@ntws.net (Ronald and Carla Womack)_ (mailto:carwom@ntws.net (Ronald and Carla Womack)) Unknown (so far) persons broke into the Wise County Heritage Museum and damaged and stole a number of items. The computer was destroyed by pouring a soft drink into all parts of it. These unfeeling thieves also vandalized and stole from the Lost Battillion Room. So much effort had been put into gathering objects to honor our brave men who served and were imprisoned in Java during WW II. Other areas of the museum were also vandalized and had items taken. What little money kept in the cash drawer was taken. Everyone has worked so hard to renovate this beautiful old building and preserved some of the county's history, and the money to do so is so hard to come by.. I guess it is the same old story...a few can ruin things for so many. Remember to address your museum requeats and messages to _carwom@ntws.net_ (mailto:carwom@ntws.net) Thanks, La Darla

Samuel Martin West was my greatgrandfather. I believe my grandmother (Carrie West) told me that her father SMW was born in Tarrant County near Keller and Southlake. It was a community called Lonesome Dove. I found the cemetary with my mother years ago, but I did not get information about how to find out who and where people are buried there. I know Carrie Ellen West Minor had a cousin named Earnest Jones and he owned a hardware store. I believe he had a deaf brother named Newt. I would love to have any information about the West family. Sam West had an older brother that lived in Bridgeport before he went there. I believe he married (Laura Ellen Sullins West), was a sister to his brother'w wife. I am not positive about that. There were second cousins somewhere in that generation of the family. I know Sam West was a Mason and belonged to the lodge in Bridgeport and the First Baptist Church. He was a rural mail man. He used a horse and buggy to deliver the mail. Later he used a car. In 1901 they lived right by the East Cemetary. ----- Original Message ----- From: "MERAL DAVIS" <meda@advantexmail.net> To: <TXWISE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 22, 2004 9:22 PM Subject: Re: [TXWISE-L] Sam West > Hi, > > I checked the book BIRTH RECORDS WISE COUNTY, TEXAS 1864-1902, by Julian G > Allen, 1907. > > In it I found listed the birth of WEST Samuel Edgar 03/24/1901 Male > Decatur (15106) * WEST John (AR) * RUSHING Myrtle T (TX). > > Also listed is the birth of WEST Carrie Ellen 03/02/1901 Female Bridgeport > (22086)* WEST Samuel Martin (TX) * SULLINS Laura Ellen (MO). > > Also listed is the birth of WEST Sidney Littleton 02/06/1900 Male Paradise > (10022) * WEST Samuel Littleton (AL) * TOWRY Margaret Elizabeth (AR). > > These are the only "Sam" West's that are listed. Julie, I doubt you will find a death certificate for her, because Texas did not require them until 1903. However, some cities and towns did begin registration in 1900, although compliance was low. Yes, I wrote that. It's about my father, who took the photo that Meral mentioned. My thanks to all of you who took time to do various searches for me.
