Lafon, I also checked the burial and cemetery info on the Wise County Site and can only find the first 3 family members buried at the Bethel-Decatur Cemtery: Jameson Alice Jul 6, 1908 May 4, 1998 Headstone with Ben H. Bethel-Decatur224Jameson Ben H. Dec 11, 1904 Jan 18, 1979 Wed Nov 13, 1924, Headstone with Alice Bethel-Decatur 223 Jameson Billy G. Feb 23, 1941 Oct 14, 1988 Bethel-Decatur 222 This would lead to a possible speculation that the infant died and there was no grave marker made. I also checked the funeral home and death certificate entries and could not find any for the infant, either. When my stillborn nephew died in the early 1980's in Texas, the parents were still being given the option of having a ceremony and marker or not. Would like to correspond with descendants or researchers of Adam JOHNSON (and Melissa MARTIN) who led wagon train from Crawford County Illinois to Wise County, Chico area about 1874. Adam JOHNSON married Melissa MARTIN, daughter of Frederick and Minerva MARTIN, my great great grandparents, about 1850. 1880 Federal Census Wise County indicates Adam Johnson and Minerva Martin settled adjacent lands. Thanks, Ed Waggoner, Nacogdoches TX
one more... http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&db=cunningb&id=I2381 this file has info about your William Cornstubble, son of Henry, who came from Illinois. It does not show in this file, but if you cross back to genforum, there is ONE POSTING for the whole thing, which comes from Lovena Norton. Is that the same Lovena who was working Earp with us a few months back?
Bingo... on the Burton genforum, I ran the search for "wise", and located this lady who had many goodies for you. http://genforum.genealogy.com/burton/messages/4737.html And she also has a link their to her personal web site, where she says she has "more". Rootsweb's family files and genforum are two of my favorites, when looking beyond Wise county. Of course, Wise county itself is my favorite county site/ email list. <grin>
If you go to www.rootsweb.com, and use the family files, you can search for William Carroll Burton. I found 6 files for this couple, 2 of them seem to have a lot of information, including parents for both him and Louisa. Here is a link to one of them- http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=snsmith2&id=I4091 As always, there are no guarantees on the accuracy of the files. This file does seem to have goodies, BUT it does show 10 children, including a son born in 1867... at the same time that it says William Carroll Burton d. 1863 in Dallas county. On the other hand, it has where the family was in 1850, and 1860 they are in Parker county. Contacting the person who put it in, you can compare notes. Something I have noticed, and this file may be an example. It seems like it was posted in Dec of last year. I have had families that were NOT found at this source, only to go back a while later and find a new file. (and rootsweb is free). As for the William, who married Melissa... this could be another of the lost marriages from Wise (or maybe Parker) county. If there is a full list of their children, Melissa's maiden name might show up on one of her children's death certs. I'll do a little more checking.
On Charley C. Burton's funeral record it has Carroll W. for father, and Jane Crow for mother. ??? Maybe you should look under those names. I'll send this funeral record too. Betty, Be sure to check just west of Wise County. In Jack County, I know there was a family with the head of household John Q. Bean. He is buried in Cundiff Cemetery. In the eastern parts of the Jack County, near Wise County, there are place names like Bean's Creek and Bean's Prairie. I always assumed they were named for John Q. Bean. I believe he was born in 1848, if memory serves me. Norm Lewis Bettyann Boyd <[email protected]> wrote: I am looking for help finding the family of John Bean born in Bridgeport,Wise,TX. Bettyann, I find lots of John Bean's in Texas. One in the census in Parker County and another in Montague County but without more information I cannot tell if any of these are the John Bean you are looking for. Do you know the name of his wife. When was he born and when did he die? Do you know the names and birthdates of any of his children? Did he serve in the military? There are a bunch of Bean family funeral home records. I'm away from home, so I don't have copies with me, but if any of these are from the Bean family you are looking for, then please write Sue Tackel as she can send you images of the funeral home records. Bettyann, Can you give us a little more information? Do you have an idea when John Bean was born? Even an approximate date would help immensely. Some other thoughts- below is one 1880 census for Wise county, where M.E. Cole (should be Mary Amanda??) is living with her sister Wilson. Both ladies are widows. M.E. does have a son William, who seems to be the age you need. I can't find anything to support if the widow Wilson was a Cantrell or not. I also did some checking in rootsweb, and came up with 2 things. Only one Armand Cole is listed, although no details. The father is from New York, but died in Nebraska. Nothing in the file shows one way or the other, if there is a connection to Texas, when or who Armand might have married or when he died. It looks like the siblings in the family are born in the 1850's, so he is possible, age wise. I also find a John William David Cantrell, b. ca 1868. Is he a younger sibling to Amanda Cantrell? Wasn't able to find him in 1880 census, but he married in Wise co in 1887, but is buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie. I don't think Montague court records would have much if anything about a child who died there, and maybe Mom was there but moved in with a sister after her husband's death. Not all cemeteries in Montague county are online. Elmwood is the large/ main one in Bowie itself. Another one just south of Bowie is Brushy cemetery, and I don't think it is online. The main thing that "could" be at the court, would possibly be a land record for Armand Cole, but that only would happen if he owned land to begin with. I did not check if there was any Cole = Hampton marriage in Wise co, after the 1880 census. Both ladies seem to have been widowed in the prior 2-3 years. Do you have much about Amanda's father? If he was living in 1870, can you find him, and if his daughter was single or married by that time? I am wondering if Finis was born by 1870. That photo, by the way is a real treasure. Roma, this message was posted 2001 on genforum. Have you any contact with this lady? Cole, John William b. 8/25/1878 Texas Posted by: Carlene Cole Foster Date: May 08, 2001 at 21:11:24 of 14462 John William Cole is my paternal grandfather. His mother was Amanda Cantrell, b. 7/17/1851. She had another son, Finis, who died at about 9 years of age and is buried in Bowie Texas. John's father's name was Armand Cole. John married Clara Christine High and they lived in Chickasha, OK (Indian Territory). I have more if anyone can shed some light on any of these people.
