Shelby, you had better luck then I did. I went to ancestry and searched for the last name of Alexander in the 1870 census and nothing came up. Then I went to Heritage Quest and search the 1870 census also and not one Alexander came up but there are George Alexander's in other counties. Can you give me more info? I am trying to find George Henry Alexander in the 1870 census. He is in the 1880 census for Wise County. In the 1870 Wise county census on Ancestry.com - the first page is page eleven. On that page the first line is a 1 year old male - E. Alexander. It is obviously a continuation from the previous page but pages 1 thru 10 are missing. I found a funeral record for Elizabeth Jane Penn Ward. She was a daughter of James Penn. She was married to Dr. J.L. Ward who was the president of Decatur Baptist College. This funeral record has an obituary pasted on it. It says she was born in Ellis County and died in Lubbock. There's lots of information about her daughter, step-daughter and 5 sisters (gives their married names and where they lived in 1965). I'll send it to you in separate email. Nellie Lucille Robinson & Charles Coatsworth Pass were married in Chico, Tx. in the first United Methodist Church which is still there. I can,t find a record of any where. All we know is he left Carter, Co., Oklahoma (Wilson) and his brother drove him to Ft. Worth, Tx.. He bought a new car in Ft. Worth and went to Chico to ask Nellie to marry him. She said yes. Richard, Several of the Penn family including your James Ambrose Penn are buried in Oaklawn Cemetery in Wise County, but you probably already knew that. I looked in the death certificate records, funeral home data, and the probate data (also on the Wise County web page) and I only found this probate record of a Penn This is probably in the 1970's period, so it is too late for your purposes. Penn, Royl minor Book 8 Vol 541 page 3964 I also looked on the state of Texas Death Index record from 1903 to 1940 to see if I could find a certificate (or a misspelled name on a certificate) and didn't find him.
