    3. This lady looks like Penelope Adams, the mother of the John Riley Munkres who married Cynthia Caroline Mode. Cyntha Caroline Mode was a daughter of John Oliver Mode and Margaret Ann Peeler. The Texas death certificate for John Riley Munkres (1945, certificate 18849, Wichita County), lists his parents as John Munkres and Penelope Adams. Might anyone know for sure?

    3. Deona I am descended from Bert Franklin Walker, brother of Ida Jane Walker. The Birth of Orval Taz has been a problem with me for some time. If you will notice on the Wise County Web site, his date of birth is listed as 11/22/99 but this is several years before John and Ida Jane were married. I have a copy of a small notebook or diary that was carried in the pocket of James Alexander Ford who married John and Ida Jane Walker. It clearly states that they were married February 4th, 1906. Orval Taz was not on the 1910 census. I have not located a 1920 census for John and family but an Orval which I presume was Orval Taz did appear on the census of 1930. He was listed as a laborer, 20 years of age born in Texas with father born in Missouri and mother in Kansas. Questions without good answers. Huh!! Ronald

    3. Shelby... One thing that might help your work is land records, and finding when (if) he bought land in Wise county. As has been mentioned, Wise county (in 1870) was pretty much empty, since there were so many Indian raids. Of course, land records are very extensive, and these are not online.

    3. Thank you for your response - I have thought about that - He obviously met and married Mary Francis Daniels - whose father John H. Daniels came to TX in 1846. John Daniels was well known enough to be included in the 1892 History of Dallas Co. The family was a well established family. So Geo. H. had to be in Dallas County in 1872. I also have a Brandon/TN line with Walker connections. My father always said that if you scratch a Texan you will find a little Tennessee underneath. 3. All I have is a family history written on notebook paper about 1966 by his oldest daughter, Nola McClung. My father meticulously saved and organized every newspaper clipping. I have a clipping from the FT. Worth paper in 1909 where Mary Frances' parents are celebrating their 60th anniv. I have a letter written to Mary Frances from her brother when their mother underwent surgery in 1908 - but that is her side of the family. He was a county commissioner in Hardeman Co. So I have all kinds of stuff from after they moved there - that's where my dad was born - the family history says - "he joined the civil war at age 14 yrs. He was never back home, he passed insight of his home chain to flat box car. His mother passed away during the war and his home was destroyed by the yanks. He had some step brother and sisters. But when the war was over he didn't go back to GA He came to Texas instead. He never knew anything about his family." I have looked through every record in the Georgia state archives of Confederate muster roles. Can't figure out anything. I have one button from his CSA uniform and it is an artillery button - but he was awfully young to serve in the artillery. Thanks for helping though -- I really appreciate it. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Pat Sent: Saturday, April 07, 2007 5:19 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [TXWISE] George Henry Alexander recorded birth Do you have his military records? 3. Hi All-- In the 1880 Federal Census, David Harrison, his wife Mary E., and their children were shown in Wise County. I am told that David died in 1889, two years after the birth of his last child, and is buried in Wise County. My first question is, are death certificates available for this period? If so, how do I get one?? Secondly, while I have checked the lists of headstones, I have not found one listed for David Harrison. Does anybody have access to cemetery records that might show where he had been buried? Thanks for any help you can give me. Arthur Gamon in Oroville, CA.

In the 1870 Census on Ancestry, if you Choose to browse by location (not using the Ancestry Search Engine), then choose Texas, then choose Wise county. The first page of precinct 1 shows on line 1 Alexander E. age 1, b. TX. This is for handwritten page 11 and stamped page 494. This page was recorded on Aug 9, 1870. Now what is interesting is that if you use the Ancestry search engine you don't find any Alexander family members in Wise county in 1870. Moreover, if you go to the Wise County web page and look in their index for 1870 for Alexander, you don't find any there either. I think you will need to look at the microfilm rolls to resolve this problem.
