ok, not genealogy.. but if anyone wants to have a peek at Wise county, tonite's episode of Wife Swap is a family from Sunset who has a salvage business. Sunset is the "country" end of the city - country comparison. Of course, MY wish is for a tv program that goes across the country and talks about research sources and local history. <grin> --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? I am trying to find if there are any Frederick Family still living in Wise county. Is there a message board to sign up for that info. Thank You Kelly Burns Wichita Falls,Texas [email protected] ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Kelly, I did a people search on yahoo and found some in Denton County and in Gainesville, but didn't see any in Wise county. Someone else can probably give you a more definitive answer than I can since I don't live in Wise County and therefore don't have a telephone directory. Ruby, Sorry for the delay in answering your e-mail. We have been in Hawaii and just returned home tonight. We only have access to the probate index and that is what we listed. We thought it might be helpful for people to know that a probate file exists. You will need to contact the Wise County Clerk to see if they will help you with this information. You are probably aware that some probate files can have a lot of documents. The 1890 Texas Census along with most other states were burned when being moved from one building to another in Washington DC sometime in the 1920s, I think. . . There are partial census records available for some states -- but the actual full census for 1890 is gone. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Thursday, April 26, 2007 12:02 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [TXWISE] (no subject) Where is 1890 census Kelly Burns Wichita Falls,Texas [email protected] ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

There is VERY slim list of those that survived the fire that destroyed the 1890 censuses.. The Civil War pension list sometimes gives you information.. or the agricultural census can help. Norman The old newspapers are on film at the Wise County Heritage Museum in Decatur. The time frame for the Wise County Messenger is 1880 through 2006. The Decatur News covers the period 1893 - 1933. Ronald
May, I ask where the copies of the Wise County Messenger are kept, and from what period of time to what? Thank you, Norman [email protected]
Yes indeed go to the museum. They are wonderful people and you will enjoy your time there! There is a cemetery association for the Alvord Cemetery. I am sure I know where my ancestor is buried and they said I could put a marker there. But they don't have any records that go way back. I found a notice of the death of my ancestor in the Wise County Messenger. MiMi -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Mon, 23 Apr 2007 7:46 PM Subject: Re: [TXWISE] Chico information That's what I was wondering. But I know with the Alvord Cemetery, they have a list of who bought the property but not who was buried in the plots. And back in the early 20's at Alvord, a person could take as much property for the same price, that they thought they might need. I am missing 3 ancestors that I am sure are buried at Alvord, according to their Death Cert. and I am certain they are in the plot that everyone else is but I can't prove it. Terry, I would start at the Museum. They have books and files of information there and if you have dates, they can do obit lookups. Then I would go to the records building which is across the street from the courthouse on the corner in downtown Decatur. There you will find court cases, wills, probates, land records. And you get to touch all of the big volumes of books and go through them yourself! Be sure to have 3 or 4 hours though. You will be surprised how much time flies when you are having fun! I have been there twice and STILL need to go back and find more! Julie ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
