I would like to make a suggestion for people to consider. For those who have original genealogy documentation, set up a section in your file cabinet and keep all the original documents you have in that section. In the event of an emergency, like the recent forest fires, you can grab those files and take them with you when you have to evacuate and you wouldn't have to search for them. You probably wouldn't have time to search anyway. They can't be replaced, even though they have been scanned. My next shopping trip will be to find an inexpensive suitcase that I can keep near my genealogy area so I can escape with them in tact. I have CD's of my computer genealogy kept at my two daughters homes, in two separate states, so I can restore my work eventually if necessary. All my pictures are scanned and saved on CD's at their homes also. I keep an inventory list of all my books at their homes also. With all the forest fires recently, I live in an area that has had forest fires, I packed up everything I wanted to protect and have it ready to go. Hopefully it won't be necessary but I'm ready in case. Just thought I would share my recent thoughts. Marge ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Gerald, if you find out who the marriage for A W Monk and Ella Mitchell really are would you let me know? Could it be a misprint and really be J W Monk???? John W Monk was a brother to my husbands grgrgrandfather.......Silas Monk. John W and Silas both were found in Wise co., although John W was there for longer. Thanks, Andrea [email protected]
Monk, A. W. Mitchell, Miss Ella 1911-Jul-15 Book 8 119 (Wise Co. TX marriages) Does any-one have information on these 2 people? Thanks Gerald Brinkley
Larry, Sorry to be so slow about answering your email. I was not subscribed to the Wise Co., mailing list. A friend sent me a copy of the Sandlin posting, and I responded to it, not knowing that my mail to LaDarlaK was going to the mailing list. I did not join the mailing list until another friend sent a copy of the email you wrote. I really appreciate the info you sent. It corresponds with what I have. James M. Sandlin was my husband's great grandfather. Mel never knew James M., but he remembers Nancy Ann Anderson Sandlin quite well. She lived until 1947 and was nearly 98 when she died. Her daughter Ada Mae Sandlin was 93. Ada Mae's daughter is still living and will be 93 in November. She lives alone in an apartment complex for senior citizens, still drives her car and takes care of herself. Her daughter's home is not far away, so she can reach her daughter or granddaughter easily. Maybe part of the tendency toward long life comes from the Sandlin line. What do you think about the attempts to connect these American Sandlins to royalty in Scotland? Thanks again for your info. Ruth H.
I'm looking for info on Jack D. Key, who was a POW nd a member of the 36th Infantry Div, 131st Field Artillery, Battery D. I understand that there is a collection in the Historical Society facility regarding these men. I've emailed the person who publishes their newsletter, and arranges their reunions, but she has never answered me. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks, E. Lynn Wright (Foster/Cunnius - Wise Co., TX) Scottsdale, AZ
Thank You Sue. After I got this one from you , this morning I got one from David Pitts. He found the death certificate for J.M. Brownlee. It says he died May 10,1939 and was buried the next day at Ball Knob cemetery. It also says he was a widow and the way i read it says he became a widow August 18 .I may be wrong. I was told that they were both buried at that cemetery. She is the one we have no info on at all, other than that she was from Georgia, And died there in Alvord. Thank You again for all the help. Kelly, I somehow missed the original post but I have access to the TX Death Records and it shows J M Brownlee 10 May 1939 Wise I hope this helps! Julie ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Hi, Kelly- Here is a file from rootsweb that lists your family- http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:8279&id=I26951839 The submitter has a specific date of death for John, and does indicate his death in Alvord. I don't know if you have any contact with this lady, or what her source document is. I used to have a website that allowed searching the Texas death index, but can no longer get into it. So, if possible, with this date, you may try to find a way to cross check. He could have died in an adjoining county, maybe. good luck...
Margaret and others..... a good place to look for books is www.abebooks.com I have had some luck finding out of print genealogy books on it. the site searches for the book and then identifies what book dealers have a copy of the book. If you don't know about it, I think you will enjoy using it. Gil

I don't see any headstones, funeral records or death certificates in Wise County. I did find one Brownlee (maybe a relative?) death certificate that I'll send you in separate email. Look on page http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~drycreek/BC-A-C.htm for 3 recorded births for this couple. Looks like they lived near Alvord. The mother's name is spelled 3 different ways with 3 different given names.!!?? Margaret, I found something that looks like it might be close enough to be what you are looking for. "Trip from Tennessee to Texas" – Sullivan/Marchbanks A Letter From The Past – John Mann Williams I found this on the Ellis County rootsweb page. http://www.rootsweb.com/~txellis/srcontent91.html It was evidently from the book: Searchers & Researchers Table of Contents -Volume 14 Issue 1 Spring 1991 If this looks like what you are trying to find, you might send them a query, go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txellis/ David Pitts Houston TX On Saturday, May 12, 2007, at 06:15 PM, Delilah wrote: > do you know the author? > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Margaret Mann" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Saturday, May 12, 2007 11:13 AM > Subject: [TXWISE] Info on John and Delilah > > > |I am looking for a history or article on John N and Delilah Mann > titled > "Trip from Tennessee to Texas." I am looking for info on Margaret Cerena Odom / Brownlee or her husband John Milton Brownlee. They came from Georgia. They are my Great Great Grandparents. I think I found something on them on the 1920 Wise County census, maybe in Chico. I believe they both died there. I think they misspelled her name. I think it was Sarina Brownlee and J.M.Brownlee.1920 Chico. I can't find where they were burried. Nay thing would be great. Hello Philip , I am Carol Daniels, and if you receive any pictures of Adubon, I would love to have copies... My Dad Audie Parks was born in Adubon...It was such a small place that I have no pictures at all...He was born on Lone Mound Road...in 1914. But alas, no pictures... and I do have studio pictures of his family but none of the countryside or town pictures... I'll keep your email just in case I run upon some... List, I have already helped Shanna quite a bit. Here is what I sent to Shanna. Just thought I might save some people some time as she sent her request to me before she sent her request to the Wise County List. > Shanna, > Check the headstones listed on the Wise County site. > All of the headstone information is there if there was a > headstone that was readable in the recent past. I only have headstone photos no photo of graves because we wouldn't know who was buried there without the headstone. If you want some other headstone photos give me the names from the list and I'll gladly forward them to you. If you found the headstone of your grandfather named Pearce in the list and want a copy of the photo of his headstone, I will need his name. I didn't see any Pearce in the list that died in 1921 or 1927 but maybe I overlooked it. Did you want Leslie Mattingley's headstone photo? wilsonprairie-040.jpg Mattingley, Leslie F. David Pitts Houston TX Shanna, Pooleville isn't in Wise County. It is in Parker County. We don't have photos of headstones for Parker County. Sorry! David Pitts Shanna, I looked on the State of Texas Death Index and here is what I found: Mattingley, S. A., Mrs., Wise July 11, 1903 Cert 60769 Mattingley, W. M., Hunt, Sept 18, 1935 Cert # 42964 Mattingley, William, Titus Apr 26, 1931 Cert 20826 Matingly, S. E. Mrs, Wise Feb 18, 1940 Cert 12090 Of all the names you gave I could not find any more that fit. There was no Mike or Michael or M. Mattingley or Matingly. There was probably never a death certificate for him. Getting death certificates from the State of Texas can be really expensive. Cheaper ones can be ordered from: http://www.txdeathcertificate.com/ ($7.00) Sorry I couldn't find more.
