Rube, From the Handbook of TX Online STONY, TEXAS. Stony is on Farm Road 2622 two miles east of the Wise county line and ten miles west of Denton in far west Denton County. It was settled in the late 1850s and was named for the stony area in which it was located. Its population never exceeded fifty, probably due to the emergence of Justin, eight miles southwest, as a shipping point for area farmers. Stony had a post office from 1879 to 1918. In 1884 it had a mill, a gin, four churches, two schools, and a population estimated at 130. By 1890 the population had dropped to fifty. In 1914 the town had 100 residents, a doctor, a blacksmith, and at least two stores. From 1933 to 2000 its population was estimated at twenty-five. In 2004 a school building dating back to 1884 still stood in the community, and a restored 1839 log cabin, located nearby, was open to the public as local museum. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Glenda, Thanks, but when it goes through it gives me a different page and I don't see how to access my paid subscription for Texas Death Certificates. When I click on People finder I get another blank page. Am I missing something? I sent David Gray a note and we will see what his answer is. Yes, I know its location and history I am a Christal and have a family history there. What I am trying to find is which county would have the census for 1880, 1900. Would it be Wise County or Denton County. The Christal Settlement was near Ponder and Stony. I visited my G Grandfather's cabin a few years ago....Wow. Appreciate all the help. ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 05, 2007 5:46 PM Subject: Re: [TXWISE] (no subject) Rube, From the Handbook of TX Online STONY, TEXAS. I am searching for my mother and her family in the 1900 US census. She was living in Stony, Texas. Her parents were John F. Christal and Dolly Christal. Which county would have those census. Wise or Denton? Is there anyone out there that could give me a helping hand. I know that she attended the Stony School. Thank you Rube'

Mike, I doubt that anyone that I know of will work on it. I am not taking on that task! Crestview has their own list and their own funeral records and you can call them and they will do lookups. 90% of the stones are flat and on the ground and nearly impossible to photograph without carrying around a stool.
