    1. [TXWISE] re Tx Rangers Co B
    2. There were still Indian vs. White settlers problems as late as the 1870s. That was the reason many complete families moved to other areas. My grandmother was born in 1873 in Dallas county and I think, if I remember correctly, that there Indian raids in that same year in Erath county (Stephenville). Check out the Texas Handbook online for some of this information. 3. Here is a member of Co. B : C.W. Huff in Wise County is where he enlisted in the newly formed Company "B" Frontier Battalion, organized and recruited at Decatur, on May 16, 1874. Records describe young Mr. Huff as born in Missouri, and 20 years of age. He stood 5 feet 10" and had auburn hair with blue eyes. C.W. Huff served with the Company, in Young and Jack Counties, until December 1874. Due to the State Treasury being unable to sustain all the men in the six Companies of the Frontier Battalion, a large man-power cut was ncccessaiy. On December 10,1874, C.W. Huff, along with about half of his Company, was given an Honorable Discharge. C.W. Huff's family were the Huff's involved in "Huff's Massacre" near Decatur...his mother and two sisters were killed. 3. I will soon be able to post a roster of the members of Company B, Frontier Battalion, Texas Rangers. It might be several weeks before this can be done. I am soliciting information and photos, both of the individuals and even their grave sites as I am tracking them from the cradle to the grave. Ray

    3. At the moment I am finishing my Masters Thesis on Company C, Frontier Battalion Texas Rangers, 1874-75. For those interested, individual Ranger service records can be found online at Texas Adjutant General Service Records. You need only enter the name; the unit and call number is not required. Don't be disappointed if your Ranger is not listed. I have found that all Company C Rangers who extended into 1875 after the reduction in force are missing from the records. It is only because I have copied the monthly reports, correspondence, and other records not on the net that I can identify these individuals. I have had problems printing the first page of some of these records, if you have the same problem, please let me know. Ray Heinsohn

Our part of the Monk line moved to Mason co after this time. They owned land in Wise co and would like any info that might include their name or give explanations to there many travels. I'm sure it had to do with farming and Indians!!!!!!!! Thanks, Andrea Monk Wendy Caldwell <[email protected]> wrote: Ray, it really sounds like a fascinating topic. 3. Julie, I have a Webb family from Polk Co. TN. Martha E. Mattie Webb b. 1843 who married John Edward Ross b. 1840 (also from Polk Co. TN). They were in Wise County in the 1880 census. These were my great grandparents. The Wren family also came with them. All are buried in the New Hope Cemetery in Parker County (but less than a mile from the Wise County border. Martha Webb's parents were Pleasant Webb and Mariam Pannel (I believe). Is this a connection to your Webb line? 2. Ray - Thanks! Here's what I have: G. W. Stevens - my files show a George W. Stevens, (1856-1924, Bandera), but he is not connected to the branch of my family that was in Wise County. According to my software, he is my Half 2C4R - but everything I have on him is the work of someone else. Loveless/Ranger - My Loveless people were not in Decatur until ca 1920, and were mostly around Runnels, Hill, and Titus counties before that, beginning in 1869. It seems the earliest of my group to be in Decatur were the Williams (William Washington + Minerva Jane Thompson), who arrived sometime in the 1870s. Thanks for your response and let me know if there are any connections! Martha ******************* In a message dated 7/21/07 8:29:23 PM, [email protected] writes: > Dear Martha: Interested in G. W.
