Samuel Hugh Jarrell's family members. Let this be added somewhere. When Uncle Sam's parents died in 1885, he took in his younger siblings and raised them to young adulthood on his farm in Milam County. He was also known to help out other families in the area when hard times came upon them. This information came from letters responding to an ad I had placed in the Milam County papers. I just want to take this time to thank the many, many people who were just wonderful with tons of help, URLs, scanned images and support for me in finding the information on my second cousin three times removed, George Washington Gordon. I've found that he was quite a fellow along with being a general in the War Between The States. George's parents are buried right here in Williamson Co., Texas, about 12 miles from where I live. Rebecca Osborne of the Williamson Co. list has some of the information on her web site. Hi Tom, I think I can give you a fair representation of the surnames linked to the William McCutcheon family. Here goes: Bennett, Burt, Crow, Evans, Harrell, Highsmith, Isaacks, Jones, Kelly, Killough, Musgrove, Noble, and Swindoll. I have no Cockrum in my database. There is a group of McCutcheons in Bell County that I don't think are related to my Williamson County McCutcheons. Some are buried in a Holland cemetery. Perhaps these are the ones related to you. I would like to tell you that there is a McCutcheon mailing list if you are interested. Hope this is some help. Faye
Who were Lucretia's parents? Grace

Hello - I would appreciate your listing other surnames that you have had attend in the past. I am searching for members of the Cockrum family that might have drifted over from Bell County. I think that I might have relatives/ancestors. It is all but rumors that tell me this. I am looking for anyone who might be related to JACK COCKRUM that was born (I think) in Bell County and moved on to Houston. He was my uncle, my sisters young brother. If you can possibly help, please do so. Contact me, Tom W. Johnson at TomJohn01@aol.com Thank you, Tom J.

I wrote the article below for my family (Rhea on mother's side; Holland on father's side & Stischer on wife's side)and would like to share it with the Williamson County List members here for two reasons. One, the person it is about, Betty Rhea, is a very fine resident of Williamson County and two, the story had such an interesting twist that I think every family researcher will appreciate it. Not to get completely ahead of my story here, but my wife Lita and I looked up Betty Rhea to learn more about my mother's Rhea family. However, in the process we learned even more about my wife's Stischer family which is something that I never in my wildest thoughts expected to happen. DON & LITA HOLLAND MEET BETTY RHEA & LEARN MORE ABOUT THE STISCHER FAMILY! On Sunday, April 09, 2000, Lita and I drove from San Antonio to Round Rock, Texas to meet Betty Joe Mundine Rhea who is the widow of my late 1st Cousin, Once Removed on my mother's side, Boyd B. Rhea. I have never meet Betty (or Boyd either) before. As a matter of fact, up until a few months ago I didn't even know Betty existed. I do remember my mother mentioning cousin Boyd's name a time or two when I was a kid and my dad says he meet Boyd once many, many years ago before he was married to Betty. But this was all that I knew of this part of my family and I didn't even know whom Boyd was married to. A few months ago my Aunt Phern Rhea Matthes gave me Betty's name as a person I should get to know. Aunt Phern was certainly correct in this assumption! Betty is one of the most delightful people I have talked to in a long time. Betty has spent many years researching the Rhea family. We had a very enjoyable afternoon discussing family history with her and getting to know her. Betty is an amazing woman. She will be age 80 next month but this hasn't kept her from staying up with the times and learning how to operate a computer. Betty has taught herself how to use a computer for her family research, for email and most important of all, to be a member of our Holland-Rhea-Stischer Family Web Page. She also is a gardener and keeps a beautiful garden in her back yard. If the saying about never becoming "old" as long as you keep learning new things is true, then Betty certainly never will become "old" as she isn't the type of person to ever slow down. (Since Betty is a member of our web page and will be reading this, I better be careful what I say about being "old". <G>) As I mentioned, Betty is very active in Rhea Family research and in past years she has worked with a team of nine other researchers who have accumulated a large amount of Rhea Family History. In 1988 they complied this information in notebook form and Betty was nice enough to present me with a copy of it when we visited. The researchers working on this project were Alma Faye Cearley (Texas), Loide & Roena Nelson (Kansas), Jane Fordyce (Missouri), Edith Ponder Roberts (Texas), Nancy Hawkins Buell (Maine), William Paul Powers (Texas), Jeff Coffee (Texas), Dr. Johnie L. Reeves (Texas), Ann Smith (Texas) and of course Betty Rhea (Texas). I haven't had time yet to really study this notebook other than to skim through it but it certainly appears to be a gold mine of Rhea Family information. I am sure that it will add a lot to my Rhea Family Tree project. There are no words that can express my profound appreciation to Betty for sharing this information with me and making it available for the next generation of the Rhea Family. At some point over the next year or so I hope to be able to scan and convert to text this entire notebook so that it can be available on our Holland-Rhea-Stischer Family Web Page. This will be another one of those "long term projects" on my list of things I want to do. One of the more interesting items we learned from Betty was that her husband, my cousin, Boyd B. Rhea was at one time the Sergeant of Arms in the Texas State Congress. (I forgot to ask her if it was the Senate or Representatives.) There is a walkway in front of the Texas State Capitol Building in Austin, Texas that has names inscribed on it and one of the names is Cousin Boyd Rhea. I have walked over these names many times in the past but never really looked at them. The next time I am there I will have to take a closer look at what I am walking on and see if I can find his name. We discussed so many things that I can hardly remember them all to write about. But one of the most amusing things was to hear Betty tell how she used to ride a mule to school when she was a child. If you ever get to talk to Betty be sure to ask her to tell you about this. But, by far, the most unbelievable thing we learned on this visit was about Betty's connection to Lita's Stischer Family! Absolutely the last thing we ever expected to hear was that Betty knew Lita's Family in her childhood! Especially since they lived in different parts of the state. When Betty learned that Lita's maiden name was Stischer, she asked "Do you by any chance know a brother and sister named Wally and Thelma Stischer who lived in San Antonio?" Lita and I both nearly fell out of our chairs when we heard this. Wallace and Thelma are Lita's aunt and uncle, her father's brother and sister. Lita's family lived next door to Wally most of his life so Lita grew up seeing her Uncle Wally almost every day. When I was dating Lita as a teenager Wally was always at their home. Lita's father Morris and Wally worked together in the family plumbing business, Mission Plumbing. The home that Wally lived in, died in and helped build when he was a child is still owned by Lita's mother and Lita now manages it for her mother as a rent home. Aunt Thelma's youngest son, Dr. Douglas Lee Hall, is the person responsible for getting me started in genealogy as a hobby! In the early 1960's Lita and I both attended San Antonio College with Thelma's middle son, Jon Wallace Hall. Thelma's husband, Robert "Bob" Arthur Hall, Sr. owned a garage in San Antonio and often saved my financial life by repairing my old cars on credit for me when I was a young man and too broke to pay for anything. Betty could not have named any two Stischer names, other than maybe Lita's mother and father, who would have been any closer to both Lita and myself! As it turns out, Betty's cousin, Jack Hays, was a neighbor of the Stischer's and also Morris Stischer's (Lita's dad) best friend. Jack Hays and Morris Stischer grew up together and continued to live near each other as adults. Morris Stischer lived on Theo Avenue and Jack Hays lived on the next street over, Malone Avenue, in the Palm Heights area of old San Antonio. Lita knew Jack Hays as a close friend of the Stischer family when she was growing up. I believe that Jack Hays is still alive and lives somewhere in Texas. For him to turn out to be related to Betty Rhea has to be one of the most interesting coincidences of Lita's and my life. Betty told us that when she was a child she came to San Antonio one summer to visit her cousin's family. During this visit she met the Stischer children and became friends with Wally and Thelma Stischer. Lita's father Morris was a little older so she didn't get to know him. There is a city park across the street from the Stischer home that was built through the efforts of Lita's grandmother Mary Elizabeth Patterson Stischer. The Stischer children played in this park for two generations. One day Betty was playing on the swings in the park with Thelma and Wally Stischer when a swing hit her in the chin. Betty still to this day has a small scar on her chin from this accident so she has never forgot her association with Thelma and Wally Stischer. They saying "It's a small world" may be trite but it is certainly true in this case! Who would have ever guessed that my quest to meet an unknown Rhea relative would have also turned up a connection to my wife's Stischer family? As I have mentioned in the past, I have turned up connections with the Holland side of my family to the Stischer family in Alabama and McMullen County, Texas that I never knew about until I started this research project. Now I have also turned up a connection to my wife's family with my mother's Rhea family! Isn't it amazing that after knowing Lita and her family since I was seventeen years old that I am just now at age 56 learning that our families knew each other in past generations? I guess that is why Lita and I both knew we were going to marry each other the minute we meet. I am now convinced that there was some sort of bond there that neither of us knew about at the time but somehow made us instinctively know that we had a lot in common and belonged to each other the first time we ever saw each other. Learning things like this, not only about my family, but also about myself is what makes family research so exciting to me. Thank you Betty Rhea for sharing your knowledge of our family history with us. Lita and I hope we get to see you again soon. Donald Ray Holland; April 15, 2000. Dear Rebecca, Lisa, and all, I am looking for Warren connections within Liberty Hill, Texas. I would also like to know when the bbq is for I am planning a trip to Liberty Hill soon. My grandmother was Lorren Warren married to George "Blacky" McCloud (we are all caucasian so I don't know the significance of the name other than he worked a great deal in the outdoors). Lorren was born in 1923/24 and my fahter's birth certificate lists Liberty Hill as her birth place. Texas Vital records does not have any record of her birth nor death (at least not since 1998). There has been zero contact between our families since 1964 when my mother regained custody of me after a long illness. Any help would be appreciated.
