    1. [TXWILLIA] New Copiers At Tx State Library
    2. David at the TSL sent me this announcement. IF YOU HAVE COPIER CARDS, USE THEM UP QUICK. The Genealogy Collection of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission is awaiting the arrival of new photocopiers. The anticipated delivery is in early July of 2000. As we all know, the old copiers have seen better days. The new machines will produce better copies with much less down time. They will, however, lack the copy card feature. With that thought in mind, no new copy cards will be sold and patrons are strongly encouraged to use up all the remaining value on their cards as soon as possible. We are all looking forward to using efficient and reliable copiers. Yours very truly, David A. 3. I have an uncle who shows on different documents that he was born in Thrall, TX and also in Shilo, TX in 1924, both shown as being in Wms. County. I have never heard of Shilo. Could it be that the name changed and that both are the same? Does anyone on here know anything about where Shilo is or if it could also be the same as Thrall? Don Holland

    3. OK, now we might be getting somewhere. One of the reasons I'm asking is that on the 1860 census for Williamson Co., one of Andrew Gordon's sons is missing. His name was George Washington Gordon who graduated at the Western Military Institute at Nashville, Tennessee, in the late 1850's, then the West Point of the South. BUT.... is said to have been schooled in his younger years in both Mississippi and Texas. I KNOW that the family settled only about a mile or so east of Hare in the early 1850's. George went on to be quite a gentleman. Not only being a Brig. General for the Confederate States Army, but also being a Secretary of the Interior and a Representative from the state of Tennessee. 3. Grace ~ This was in the mid to late 1850's. Taylor wasn't a town yet. Of course they may have gone to San Gabriel, too, but I don't know anything about San Gabriel to say. 2. Many children went to school in the homes of people...wives or others would teach. Documentation for this is in estate settlements and inventories in Williamson Co 1850 - 1870. It is possible that Hare School was in the home of people named Hare.

    2. Fred, The Texas School Census of 1854 would be a great help if it includes Williamson County -- I know some Texas counties are not included. There are probably more copies of the census than the one I've read at the Texas State Archives. The Census divides each county into districts and includes the parent's name (father) and names of children between the ages of 6 and 16. Alana
