If you receive an e-mail message with the subject: "Important Message From ..." Do NOT open it, and DELETE it immediately. The message contains a Microsoft Word file attachment, which contains a dangerous macro "worm" (similar to a virus). If you open this file, the macro will send multiple copies of the file and worm to many other users, hence causing it to spread extremely rapidly. It will also infect your machine with a version of itself that will be present in any new Microsoft Word documents you create. This is not a hoax. This worm is also infecting other sites around the world. See the last section of this message for further technical details. 1. This comes from a credible source. See link down below. 2. This does NOT mean the lists are getting infected. 3. It is said that the eMail message with the subject noted has an attached file. Don't even open the message, just delete it. Opening the email message WILL NOT spread the virus. Opening the attached Word file WILL spread the virus. However, the advice is to just delete the email message itself, sound advice. Some people will open the email, then be tempted to open the Word file just to see what happens (sort of like the apple in the Garden of Eden). Don't tempt fate, delete the email message. 4. You'll see that CNet, below, has information on this. FURTHER TECHNICAL DETAILS A worm replicates itself by trying to send multiple copies of itself to other recipients, who, in turn, execute the worm and do the same. This particular worm is in the form of a Microsoft Word macro. An unsuspecting user receives a message with an attached Word document that contains the macro. If the user opens the document and allows the macro to execute (either by having disabled this protection in MS Word, or by confirming on a dialog box), the macro will execute and propagate itself. This macro also modifies your default document template to cause all new documents that you write to contain the worm. If you later send someone one of these documents, the recipient could start the propagation again, using your document as the base. HOW TO FIND OUT MORE C/Net's news.com has a story on this virus/worm: http://www.news.com/News/Item/0,4,34334,00.html?st.ne.fd.gif.e Many thanks.

There has been several new surname intries added to the Wilbarger county page + a couple of other new items http://www.rootsweb.com/~txwilbar/index.html Thanks Evelyn
Is there anyone there who could do a lookup for an obituary for an individual who died in Wilbarger County? I got this death date from the Social SEcurity Death Index: Lee A. Smith born 31 Oct., 1900 died April, 1977, Vernon, Wilbarger Co., TX I am trying to locate descendants of this man, and an obituary would help. His brother evidently died in Wichita Falls, and I'm also looking for an obituary for him: Barney L. Smith born 8 Feb., 1896 died Aug., 1987, Wichita Falls, TX I am looking for obituaries for these two men, in order to confirm that they are the people I'm after, and then to locate descendants of them, if they had any. Men with these same birthdates and names were born in Hopkins Co., TX, sons of Henry LaFayette Smith and Leola Goolsby. I am trying to trace all descendants of this couple. I am writing from England and have no access to TX records. I would be very grateful if anyone can help me. (Sorry the name is Smith!) Sincerely, Danny Knight.
To All Whom It May Concern: The purpose of this message is to inform all genealogists & researchers who subscribe to TEXAS Rootsweb Lists, of a very important web site that now has a searchable database of over 1,650 U.S. Regular Army soldiers who once served at the short-lived Buffalo Barracks, between 1835 and 1846. Many of these soldiers had fought in the Indian Wars in Florida and also the War with Mexican, and then the Civil War. It is without doubt that some of the descendants of these men are most likely in every county of the great state of Texas. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT: The 1840 Census of Buffalo, NY lists Colonel James M. Bankhead, of Virginia, and a total 'quantity' of 671 individuals, ranging in age from 1 to 60, as being under his command and/or responsibility. Unfortunately, the census does not list each of these barracks residents by name....only by 'quantity.' (ie. 426 males 20-30 yrs, or 34 females 20-30 yrs) HOWEVER, The Buffalo Barracks Historical Web Site has turned most of the 'quantities' into actual names. The list of these officers and soldiers (and some of their wifes and dependants...see the Barracks Notebook section) are available, free of any charge. The URL for this outstanding web site is: [ http://www.buffalonet.org/army ] There, you will discover the "Descriptive & Historical Register Data of Enlisted Soldiers in the U.S. Army," for those who served at this federal military post on the Niagara Frontier. Also available is a wealth of rare and interesting information pertaining to the Buffalo Barracks and it's unique historic value. I encourage everyone to take the time to visit this site. Perhaps you have an ancestor who once served there? Enjoy your visit, Cliff Williams 104740.372@compuserve.com buffalobarracks@hotbot.com

At this time there is not a printed index of the Wilbarger County cemeteries.
