Jessie's father was William Henry Coleman of Vernon,Wilbarger Co TX. Not sure if she married in Vernon or not. Later I know they were living in the Wellington,Collingsworth Co,TX area. My mother believes their son had a grocery store in that area and also raised cattle.

He married a woman named Cornelius between 1941 and 1944 either in Vernon, TX or in Jim Wells Co., TX. They divorced abt. 1946 in Alice, Jim Wells Co. TX and Gene Rice died before 1960, probably in Vernon, TX. I'd like locate the grave and get additional information on Mr. Rice.

Hello Searchers, I am new to your list, AND unfamiliar with Vernon, Texas. I understand there was a highschool on Maiden Street around the 1940-42 era. Is the school still there? My friend is looking for the picture of a classmate who would have been in Highschool from 1940-1942. I guess his middle name was given after his mother's maiden name. This Fred was born in Edom, Texas on Jan. 1, 1884, not 1885 as in previous message.

Their son, Robert Leon Reed is my father. They were all from Vernon, Tx., Wilbarger Co. (Jake and Mildred divorced and both remarried) Tate Leon (Jake) Reed was born June 18, 1904, a native of Quanah who came to Vernon in 1919. He died April 27, 1964. Jake's parents were Fred L. Reed, born Jan. 1, 1885 and died Jan. 8, 1963. He was struck by a car crossing the main street in Vernon in front of his house. He wife was Zilpah (Zelpah) Lee Ann Jones, b. Little Rock, Ark., Nov. 2, 1884, died 1966. Married Aug. 13, 1903 at Quanah, Tx., Hardeman Co., Tx. Jake had a sister, Lucille (Married Gillum of Lubbock, Tx.) and a brother Freddie J. Reed of Graham, Tx. Young Co., Tx. Don't know if this helps, but will exchange info. with any interested parties.

He was born in Collin Co., as was she, but his father was from MO. I have nothing on his father other than that his name was William Thomas MARTIN, b. abt. 1850 in MO and in Collin Co. by 1880. I wish I did. There are a lot of coincidences in your family and mine. I'm not ruling out that they were related to the ones in MS or could have even been there prior to MO the way they got around. Do you have any connection to a George F. T. Martin, who was born in Mississippi and married Hessie Henington? Hessie's brother William Garrison Henington and his wife Cornelia Slay came to Texas with George and Hessie around 1867. They were first in Ft. Worth, Tarrant Co., TX in 1870. I lost them after that. I recently received information from the Clement family history (the Heningtons were of the Clement family, plus George's dad married a Clement in MS) that both Hessie and William Garrison ended up in Vernon, TX. I am trying to follow this possible lead. Any information would be appreciated.
