Posted for genealogical purposes published in Corpus Christi Caller Times, 01/20/2005 Harry Howard Hayes, 96, of Corpus Christi passed away January 18, 2006. Harry was born in Henrietta, Clay County, Texas, November 23, 1909, to the late Herbert Barton Hayes and Rachael Louisa Hayes. The family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, soon after he was born. Harry graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1927. He received three degrees- B.A., B.S. and M.A.-from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. He was very proud of his life-long association with the famous Hardin-Simmons Cowboy Band. While attending Hardin-Simmons he met his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth Johanne Fletcher of Abilene. They were married on August 29, 1934. The family moved to Corpus Christi in 1951, after living in Abilene, Los Angeles California, and Scarsdale, New York. Elizabeth preceded him in death on August 14, 2003. In WWII he served as a Lt. Commander in the United States Navy. After several successful careers, he founded Hayes Insurance Agency in 1962, retiring from there in May 2000. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi, Texas. He was preceded in death by sisters Mary Syble Hendrick, Anna Lucille Palmer and brothers William Myers Hayes, Herbert Leon Hayes and Eddie Ray Hayes. He is survived by his only child, H. Darrel Hayes and wife Margot, of Bedford, Texas; granddaughter Suzanne Humann and husband, Walt, of Dallas, Texas and great-grandchildren: Walter John, Katherine Marie, Hailey Hayes, and Jennifer Elizabeth Humann and granddaughter, Charlotte Malone and husband John, of Powder Springs, Georgia; sisters Madelyn Kyser of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Juanita Hamilton of Salt Lake City, Utah, and several nieces and nephews and brother-in-law, Wilson Douglas Fletcher of Oakmont, Pennsylvania. The Family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Ann Lockhart for her devotion to and friendship with Harry and Elizabeth. She was very special to them. Visitation for Harry Howard Hayes will be held on Thursday January 19, 2006 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. at Seaside Funeral Home. Graveside services for Harry Howard Hayes will be held on Thursday at 2:00 P.M. at Seaside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hardin-Simmons Cowboy Band Foundation, HSU, Box 15220, Abilene, Texas, 79698
