Texas began recording births and deaths in 1903. But not all counties consistantly reported all births and deaths to the state until the 1930s. So the state may not have his death certificate. All deaths from 1903 to 1940 are indexed together. I checked all 33 pages of ROSS deaths and only found 4 who died in Sep 1919. None were named Whit ROSS. None of them died in Wichita County. So apparently the state doesn't have his death certificate. But Wichita County may have it. Contact the County Clerk. Wichita County Clerk Lori Bohannon P.O. Looking for a death certificate for my great uncle that died in 1919 in Wichita Falls, Wichita Co. According to a newspaper article in his home town of Denton, TX ,dated Sept. 27, 1919, which was published on a Monday, it stated he had died on Friday night and he was in the Wichita Falls Sanitarium when he died. The article further states he had only been ill only a day or two at the time of his death. He had been working in the oil fields near Wichita Falls when he became ill. I am guessing that he died Sept. 24, 1919 but it could have been earlier. His name was Whit Ross and was 29 yrs. old. I'm not sure if Whit is his given name or a nickname. His mother went to Wichita Falls to identify the body but not sure if she brought back him back or left him in Wichita Falls for burial. Can anyone help me?

Neel and Melvina? To be very truthful I am more interested in Melvina. I am not sure of her maiden name but it is believed to be Dugan. She was born about 1840 in Arkansas and moved to Texas with her first husband Thomas StClair in about 1860. They were listed on the 1860 Johnson Co., TX census. They had one child Winnie Marinda (Minnie) StClair born about 1858/59. Melvina then married Anderson S. Neel sometime before 1870. They were listed on the 1870 Milam Co census. This couple had three sons John Marion, (died in Tarrant Co but is buried in Palo Pinto Co,) James A. (James is believed to be buried in Wise co) and Albert Lee (Albert is buried in Wise Co). I have not found a trace of the family on the 1880 census but Melvina married E. N. Baker 1-27-1880 in Parker and then married Stephen Langly 3-22-1883 in Parker county.

Hi all, I have asked for help on the list before, but this is a different name, and hope someone can help with it. When John R. McIlheran died in Wichita Falls, one of his survisors was a daughter, Patsy R. McIlheran. However, in the Obituary, it only listed the name of the husband as Jack Holman. I have been researching this name, and found this today in our Library. From Wichita Co., TX Divorce Records 74401 HOLMAN JOHNNY W 35 PATSY R 33 04 14-Dec-1956 16-Dec-1975 It stated that they had 4 children. Does anyone know a way that I might find the names and birth dates of their children. Any help will be very useful to me. Thanks, Mary
