" Bert" William Garland Strange B: 6-3-1906 was married to Frances W. Wall in Stephens County, Ok. 3-1-1933. In 2-1934 they had a baby girl named Elisa. I have their history from 1933 forward but am trying to establish where Bert was born.. His birth certificate says Electra, Tx. but some say he was born in Alabama before the family moved to Tx. 1900 shows Sam & Samantha Gabriel in Marshall County, Alabama. 1910 shows them in Texas... So, unless there is another way of establishing dates..We're caught in the middle... Do you have access to Texas Tax or voting records for 1905-1906 up until 1910... I don't know how to check them ... are they on line ??? Thanks so much for your help.. I am really up a creek on this one.. Hi List, Irene Donley died at Wichita Falls May 3, 2005. Can someone please see if there is an obituary and if so could I get a scanned copy. Many thanks, Bill Hunter Ottawa, Canada
I checked the city cemetery list and did not find any Gates children buried in any of the city cemeteries. I have yet been able to determine where the people from Allendale were buried. They did not have a cemetery in that town, but the town, when it existed was about halfway between the Riverside Cemetery in Wichita Falls and the Holliday Cemetery in Holliday, Archer Co. TX. Sorry that I couldn't help! Julie

The only way I can think of to pinpoint the date is to order copies of the tax rolls for Wichita and Foard Counties for the years you suspect they came. Even if they didn't pay property tax, they may have paid poll taxes for those years. While it doesn't guarantee an exact year, you could be pretty certain they arrived either in the first year they paid taxes or the year prior (as they may have not paid taxes in their first year in Texas).
