Friedericke and J.F. Sydow came from Germany in 1851 thru Galveston according to a book of German immigration. Their son Gustav married Lena Gertrude Klaus in Washington County in 1878. Gustav and family moved to Fort Bend County in the late 1800s or early 1900s and all are now buried in the Guy, TX cemetery except J.F. Sydow. Searching for anyone who might know of JF Sydow's burial location, possibly in Washington County. Also any information about the Sydows in the 1800s. According to records they immigrated from Bremen on the ship Weser and local German officials destroyed all departure records during this timeframe. Hi, While going thru a antique store in Falls County I found a deed. The names on it are R. B. Rivers and his wife S. W. Rivers. Also was named John M. Wilson, Thomas G. Wilson. Eva J. Warren and her husband William G. Warren. This document is dated Feb. 24, 1875, all is hand written. I am selling this very cheap, trying to get it in the family hands. Thanks Theresa Carhart
Hi, I am new to your list and not sure what is available. Would someone have a printed copy of the 1870 Washington Co Census and tell me if Joseph L. Priestly is listed and has a family? Too, if there are any Champion families on the same census. Joseph was married to Margaret Elizabeth Champion. Thanks so much Karen Smith Louisville, KY
I am looking for a marriage certificate for ARABELLA LAWRENCE to DAVID CROCKETT FERRELL (FARRELL) in August 4, 1857 in Washington county, Texas. Book 1 page 42, I was told that the book that had the marriage in it was being sent to a museum in Washington county. I was wondering if anyone could see if the book was still at the Court house or if it has been sent to the museum. ARABELLA and DAVID CROCKETT FERRELL are my G-G-G-G-Grandparents and any help would be greatly appreciated. Hi, I am the County Coodinator for Falls County, in the process of looking thru some papers at a antique store found a old document stating Republic of Texas and it had the surname Frauk . If you are interested in me getting this for you let me know. Theresa Carhart
I would like to see a Republic of Tx. mailing list go into effect. I need some help. I have copies of two 1st class headright grants in my gg grandmother's name. I understand that these grants were not awarded to females unless the female was widowed. Her surname was "Wright" when she married my gg grandfather, John Wilson McKisick, in 1839 in Washington County. I am trying to find out who her first husband was. Her maiden name was Sarah McGary. I can find no record of a marriage between a McGary and a Wright. How do I find out how she became eligible for her two grants? Sincerely, Brownie MacKie BMacKie1@compuserve.com
I am looking for any information on Jmaes Monroe Hood, born in Pickens Al 12/18/1818, came to Texas abt 1848. Anyone know anything about him or any descendants, anscestors regarding this family? Thank you Laura Logan
I would appreciate if someone could help me in my search for the identity of an Israel Rout who married Susie Anderson on August 10, 1887 in Washington Co. I have a copy of their marriage license and I also have a copy of the marriage license of Mrs Susie Rout to Henry Clay on March 19, 1898. From that information is would appear that Israel had died between 1887 and 1898. I believe Israel Rout is one of three brothers who went 'west' in the mid 1800's. Israel and one of his brothers, Westley, landed in Ohio, married and had families. However Israel's wife died in 1882 in Ohio and he disappeared until I found a reference to an Israel in the Washington Co. TX marriage licenses. (How many Israel Routs could there be?) Are the death/obituary records for the years 1887-1898 indexed anywhere? If so how could I access them? I am hoping the death certificate would provide more information than the marriage licenses. If anyone would be willing to look the death up and make a copy, I would be willing to reimburse for time and materials. Please contact me privately if anyone is interested. Thanks to any and all in advance. Pat Dailey epd@bellatlantic.net

Greetings, all. I recently asked Rootsweb to create lists for those of us researching our Polish and Czech ancestors in Texas. They have done so, and I am the 'host' of those lists. I invite all of you to subscribe. Just send e-mail with only the word "subscribe" (without the quotes) to the addresses for the respective lists. Those with the "l" in the names are for the regular lists, those with the "d" are for the digest versions. The addresses are: tx-czech-l-request@rootsweb.com tx-czech-d-request@rootsweb.com tx-polish-l-request@rootsweb.com tx-polish-d-request@rootsweb.com I also have the lists for the Polish surnames "Kaminski" and "Dykowski" and the Czech surname "Pekar" as below, and all with those lines are welcome. Just send mail as indicated above. After Wednesday, I will also have the Czech surname "Kupcak" kaminski-l-request@rootsweb.com kaminski-d-request@rootsweb.com dykowski-l-request@rootsweb.com dykowski-d-request@rootsweb.com pekar-l-request@rootsweb.com pekar-d-request@rootsweb.com I hope this will be of interest to some of you. Don't forget this valuable resource. Texas also has census records beginning in 1850. You can write or visit the Catholic Arhives of Texas at this address: 1600 N. Congress, P. O. Box 13327, Capitol Station, Austin, Texas 78711 or call (512) 476-4888. They do charge $10/hour and $2.50 per record found or you can do your own research. You must know the name of the church or parish and/or the area (county) they lived in. There is no central index of names. My ancestors came to Texas in 1846 and my husband's in 1889. We have found a wealth of information through church records. Each church was responsible for keeping their own records. Some records were destroyed in fires as was the case in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Grimes County. "The earliest Catholic churches in what is now the State of Texas were: San Fernando (in modern day San Antonio) established 1739, San Elizario (El Paso), established 1777, San Augustin (Laredo), established 1789, St. Mary's (Victoria), established 1840, Sacred Heart (Nacogdoches), established 1847, and smaller missions sponsored by these churches. In 1847, the Diocese of Galveston was founded and new parishes were established." I was going through some boxes and I ran across a book called "Big Men Walked Here! The Story of Washington on the Brazos" by Stanley Siegel copyright 1971 by Jenkins Publishing Company. Inside is a lot of names and historical information including the names of all 59 Delegates who signed the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 3, 1836 along with a brief background on each man as well as a brochure on the life history of the "Last President of the Republic of Texas" Dr. Anson Jones. Hopefully, someone might find this information useful.
