Recently a Y2K fix was posted, which involved changing the the number of digets in the year from 2 to 4 so that the Windows Programs would be Y2K compliant. Since then I have received information via the Carbide retireees organization that this "fix" is a hoax. This is just the standard program that Windows has for letting us use the date (year) in either 2 digits or 4 digits. It has nothing to do with Y2K compliance. I should point out that implementation of this "fix" will not harm anything; apparently it was put on the WEB as a joke. For those needing to update their computer, MS will give a free disc to update Windows 95, 97, 98 for Y2K compliance, if you ask for it. I have done this and am awaiting the disc delivery so that I can implement the fix. The MS phone no. is 1 888 673 8925 (stay on line until you can talk with a person). Hopefully, this disc will be sufficient. Bernie Fulks
