    1. Elusive Family of Victoria co.
    2. Thought I might throw this out again. My BECK Family is still a brick wall. * There were two separate BECK Families in the Victoria, Victoria Co., Texas area in the late 1800s - to mid 1900s. Mine: Between 1876 and 1886 - the earliest date of arrival is what has always been told by old family members - the later date is what is stated on the census of 1910; a young man arrived in this country from Germany with at least his mother. Unknown if there was a father or any siblings. Frank E. Beck was born in Germany in 1873, arriving either 1876 or 1886. A sworn statement was made in 1918 in Houston, Harris Co., Texas to the affect that a Mathias/Matthias Hug(g) was "married to a Henrietta Beck, since Frank was a small boy, and that he (Hug) had been a resident of Harris Co. for over 30 years". At the same time of this sworn statement, a letter of introduction was given to Frank Beck by the Sheriff of Victoria Co., Texas, not addressed to anyone. Letter just asks that courtesy be shown to Frank while he was in the Houston area. Within two weeks Frank Beck died at his home in Victoria Co., Texas. Cause: Unknown. Youngest, still living, daughter stated "he had cut a cow", felt bad, laid down in his bed and died. Have been unable to locate Frank's mother -Henrietta or this Mathias Hug. Unknown as to what port of entry they arrived; whether or not there was a father or siblings. Have not located HUG on a census. I know when he died, however, place of interment on his Death Certificate is not where he is buried - I have already looked at that Cemetery in Houston. He died of complications of frostbite to the feet. * On his Death Certificate - Mrs. M. Hug states no knowledge of the birth date or location of Mathias Hug. Nor does she know his parents names. That entire section is marked "Doesn't Know". Hope someone recognizes this elusive BECK line. Sharon CHILDERS Alderman Huffman, Texas sheria20@aol.com
