Hello, folks, It's been called to my attention that I need to update the information on my TAGS lines on the list. And, yes, I sure do! There has been a change of information for the History Book being done by our local Genealogical Society. The former deadline of August has come and gone, but you may still continue to send in your articles for any and all of your families. There currently is no deadline set, as they will continue until they get the required number of articles done by submitters. Then, it will close and go to print. It will take longer to get the book, but my, what a book it will be! So, get your Victoria connection families in print. Here's the How of it. 1. Your family member must have resided in VICTORIA COUNTY at some point, but for not set time period. They just have to have lived here, way back when, or NOW, including people who just now arrived here. 2. You may have TWO PAGES of FREE space. (*See Number 3 rule.) 3. You must use a COURIER 10 FONT to write it in typewritten method. You can use however many words you can cram on a page with that font, margins do not matter. You can set your margin any place you want to. 4. BUT, if you have no typewriter, they will take it in handwritten method and a volunteer will transcribe it for you. Mail those to Doris Obsta, 4306 Guy Grant Road, Victoria, Texas 77904 5. You may even submit it via email. Send those to the address: GENEALOGY@colbalt.vic.uh.edu 6. Last, but not least, you are allowed ONE FREE PICTURE of your people your article is about. Details for that are: You will lend your picture to us to COPY, then you will get your picture returned, OR, you may have it copied yourself at some copy/photographer, but you need to have it done in a GLOSSY BLACK AND WHITE, so it will transfer correctly into the book. If you send a picture, your picture sent will be returned to you, whatever kind it is. The Victoria College Archives will keep one COPY so it will be forever on file here in this town archives. 7. You may submit as many articles as you want to, so long as it is of different people. You can use every branch of family or individuals you have on your tree, the only rule is they had to have lived here. 8. Now for the extra information stuff. Generally your article might be more words than the two pages allowed with that font, and if it is, you may opt to keep every single word which begins to fall over onto new and more pages. The rule for that is you must pay the VCGS 40 cents per LINE for ever line over it. (I did, myself, because I wanted the article on my family like I wanted it, and that's allowed, but you have to pay extra if you use extra space. Now, that's being very fair, we think.) 9. More Extra Information. Your picture submitted will be reduced to a ONE COLUMN (text size column like a newspaper column) as the Free Picture. BUT, if you want it larger, you may have a Double, or even Three Column picture put in, but for every column width you go over, you pay another $5.00. So, a two column width photo is $5.00 extra; a three column photo is $10.00 extra, but you see the possibilities? You can submit separately those photos to be put on as single column pictures, also, but it will still cost you $5.00 for every one you submit beyond the first and free one we allow you. Did I make that plain, or muddy it up? If you are confused about any one point, contact our VCGS office over at Victoria College where they have been given works space by the college for this historical project. You can talk to any of them at 361-573-3291, ask for the Genealogy Society Room. ( I don't have the direct phone number, this is a switchboard number, but they will put you through. The VCGS group is located in the Library there) You all know the project itself is in honor of our county's 175 Anniversary Year. Formed in 1824, we are celebrating a full 175 years this whole year with various fests and activities. Hurry now and get busy on your articles. Use this chance to put your ancestors IN PRINT for all your descendants, cousins, and inlaws to see. Make your footprint in time. Let people who come after you at least know you did live, and did do something. Yes, maybe all of us haven't done something historic, or earth shattering, but be very sure, some descendant is going to come looking for their family, and maybe you did not even help them find you and your ancestors! That would be a great loss, not only to them, but in not honoring your ancestors, even if you think maybe you don't need to put yourself in. Truth is, you need to even put YOU in. One day WE will BE those ancestors! HA, think on that! Get your articles in, hurry, hurry, hurry! (That sounds like a carnival barker cry.) bj, your Victoria Listmanager, and county book promoter! did you guess that by now? Make a copy and save this, it's too, too much to put on those little tags. And I still have to repair them, when I get time!
