I received the following request & hope that one of you on the list might have some info or suggestions on where I could look. I've never heard of Woodport. There was a little info on McFaddin in the "Victoria Co. Historical Markers Guide." Thanks, Cynthia "Hi, Mr. & Mrs. Buttram. I am the publisher of "Texas Post Offices By County" (see New Handbook of Texas Online references). I have not been able to find the name origins of three Victoria County post offices. I have checked county histories, cemetery and census records, various microfilm sources, etc. - to no avail. I saw your name often on the Victoria County Genealogy website, and just wanted to check to see if you or an associate would happen to know "off the cuff" (**NO RESEARCH REQUESTED**) where any of these listed below might have gotten their NAMES from. They are "toughies" for sure, but I was hoping that perhaps you would have an "inkling" on at least one. They are: Jasmine (1895-1908) - 1st postmaster was Erick Norine (also known as "Keeran"; maybe for a female member of the Norine or Keeran family?; or for another local "belle"?; or for the flowering shrub?; located at Telferner) Marianna (1907-1923) - 1st PM was Edwin P. Stubblefield (for a female member of the Stubblefield or McFaddin family?; located at McFaddin) Woodport (1852-1860) - 1st PM was Chesley D. Strange (an obscure "oldie"; located near the confluence of Garcitas and Arenosa Creeks; I have come across a pioneer land-grant-holding Victoria County settler by the name of T. Wood, but there is no indication that he resided in this part of the county) Help on ANY one or more would be most welcome. Thanks very much. I like your website! I look forward to hearing from you. Take care.........John J. Germann"
John, Marianna was the name given to the community that later became McFaddin. I grew up there. What is it you wish to know? Answer me through my own email address.
