    1. Hamburg Passenger List
    2. Bowen Family
    3. After quite a few phone calls to Salt Lake, Dan and I can report that: The new Hamburg Passenger Index update is available through Family Tree Maker on CD. It is $39.95. It is not published through the LDS Church, and Dan isn't sure how that index corresponds to church microfilms. Our Victoria FHC has it on our list of things to buy. Thank you, Kathleen, for bringing this to our attention. http://www.familytreemaker.com/356facd.html

    1. GNIS site
    2. Billye D. Jackson
    3. Most of you already know of this site, but for new TXVICTOR's, it bears sharing again. Intercepted message. bj How to pull up a map of a county. There is a great resource site you should all bookmark - it is the US Governments Name Information Service (GNIS) at: http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.simple.html >From this site, you can search for any "feature" - towns, rivers, cemeteries, townships, and so forth. You can search for a named feature (like "Hometown") or just put "ppl" (populated place) in the feature type block with no name - the database will return all the cities and towns in the county. If you call up a "feature", it will display two maps - one of the U.S. and one of the local area. The local area map can be "zoomed" until you can see the whole county.

    1. From Another Site - War of the Rebellion
    2. Edna Lafour
    3. ornell University has put the ENTIRE "War of the Rebellion" on the internet!!! Over 60 volumes!!! It includes scanned images of reports, correspondence, seizures of Southern property, etc. sent to the War Dept. during the Civil War. It includes both Union and Confederate accounts. It is in chronological order but there is no online index. Many libraries have the index. Find the volume and page number for your subject in the index at the library. 2. Billye D. Jackson
    3. Ky Newspapers Online (but I know Louisville is also on, so this page is not a current listing of all) http://www.onlinekentucky.com/kcn.html#onlinep And this page is LaRue County. Apparently the person who built this page did it using a feature that most of us do not own, and it keeps popping a "Netscape Browser Plug In needed" notice at the top. I found that if I hit the Cancel Button there, and just wait for it to load, it will load without getting the plug in on my computer. It has a 'search' capability that is wanting us to get the plugin, but since it refers to one that has to be bought, I won't do that in order to read a page someone makes. I will download free plug in's, just won't pay $$ for one. Suit yourself, but it will load without the plugin. (I have the newest version of netscape, 7.0, though) LaRue County Page Has some early pioneers, civil war men, old preachers and old churches and members of those. Attractive looking page, but like mine, it needs more work! www.lancom.net/~knobcreek/

    2. Billye D. Jackson
    3. Did you know you can search the Rootsweb Archives any Mail List on RootsWeb since they began their Archive Holdings last year? http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl If you want our list, type in TXVICTOR-L for Victoria County. Then you need a surname to search. Since we use our list for random information also, try using my name or initials if you want those odd posts from myself, since I regularly post websites and other messages. (some will be of old/no interest now) The Archives, all of them, began in 1998. A 1998 search using "Jackson" will get you 147 messages A 1998 search using "bj" will get you 84 messages A 1999 search using "Jackson" will get you 288 messages A 1999 search using "bj" will get you 245 messages These searches could be duplicates if both search subjects were in the message. This is just an Information Bulletin. bj ListManager
