    2. Billye D. Jackson
    3. This came in via email, and also from a friend who is a subscriber, apparently it went out to all their members for open access for a week, the password information from my friend and from this note, all are the same. Think it is open for us all to take advantage of. I was told this Genealogy Library.com is a better site even than Ancestry.com, but I wouldn't know that for myself. I was told the membership fee is $99.00 a year, which is more than Ancestry. That's all I know, just wanted you all to know we can use this for a bit, free. Has 1850 census, and other stuff....bj The User Name and Password below will give FREE access to the > >> entire GenealogyLibrary.com site, 24 hours a day for seven days. > >> To take advantage of this offer, go to the following Web page > >> before December 24th: > >> http://www.familytreemaker.com/holiday99/ > >> > >> When prompted, type in the following User name and Password: > >> User name: holiday > >> Password: special

(Picked this up on the Quaker list) bj Nearly 380 years ago, the early settlers of Plymouth Colony gathered to give thanks for the bounties and blessings that the "New World" afforded. In honor of this event, Ancestry.com is providing the following databases free for searching over the Thanksgiving Day weekend. One is for cemeteries and has two of the Tulsa, OK cemetaries online. Have a good holiday, all. I've been staying really busy, and I'd bet most all of you are, too. Wishing you all a safe trip, if you are visiting. Hope you have lots to eat and a lot of good ole leftover turkey sandwiches. See you all later. 3. Ken Titt has sent along a couple of pieces of info on websites. Thanks, Ken. I looked over the Texas History site, found another leading off to a separate TX page that offers TX postcards, if anyone might want to see that part. It's at http://www.virtualtexan.com/ Here's Ken's submissions: http://www.usgennet.org/~alhntxus/prolog.html and a piece of info he passes along. Think we mentioned it the other day, but my brain cells forget. The second piece was re the LDS site update. Pay particular attention to the warning not to download any of the gedcoms directly into your genealogy program database. It can sure mess one up, if you find later you don't want it. Every single person you had in that download gedcom would have to be hand removed! Big chore. So, do put any downloads into their own new file, like it says...bj: Subject: LDS site update Date: Mon, 15 Nov 1999 05:55:46 -0600 From: "Gary F. Presson" <g_presson@juno.com> Reply-To: ks-kin-l@raven.cc.ukans.edu To: ks-kin-l@raven.cc.ukans.edu The following article is from Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter and is copyright 1999 by Richard W. Eastman. It is re-published here with the permission of the author. ============================================================ - FamilySearch.org Updated The very popular LDS FamilySearch.org Web site has a few new capabilities. Visitors to the site can now search by: * Event (All, Birth/Christening, Marriage, Death/Burial, Other) * Year Range (None, Exact Year, + or - 2 years, + or - 5 years, + or -10 years, + or - 20 years) * Specific Year * Countries (All Countries or select one from list) * State * Ancestral File Number (AFN) * An option to search for only exact spellings Other recent changes include the ability to download a GEDCOM from Ancestral File search results. This allows users to import information directly into their own genealogy software. (Never import such data into your primary database! Always create a new, empty database and import into that. Once you have examined the quality of the new data, you may decide to import it into your primary database.) The FamilySearch.org Web site also has over 43,000 new and updated titles added to the Family History Library Catalog. There are new Pedigree Resource disks and collaboration lists available as well. Full details are available at: http://www.familysearch.org/whats_new.asp

    2. Billye D. Jackson
    3. Snagged this info on a KY list group, and it's useful to all KY hunters. Deer season has opened, and I hope you all catch your most "dear" missing ancestor. Well, at least the ones lost in KY might be hiding around here. Sorry, I couldn't help that. bj, listmanager.. An electronic version of A Guide to Kentucky Place Names, published by the Kentucky Geological Survey, is now available. The Guide is a gazetteer of Kentucky towns, landmarks, churches, cemeteries, etc. compiled from a number of sources. This index is extremely useful when you need to know how some obscure place name relates to the world as you know it. http://ukcc.uky.edu/~kgsinfo/ An Electronic Guide to Kentucky Place Names

    2. Billye D. Jackson
    3. Found this tonight in another list, hadn't seen that pretty pink background, I don't think, nor this site. It covers migration paths for all states, but is a work in process so not all are covered, it's only a recently begun page, actually. Keep an eye on this, and there's an option to submit what we know of our own family migration paths. This is a good thing. bj http://www.migrations.org/

    1. bookmarks
    2. Billye D. Jackson
    3. I have used Netscape for a long time, and just accidentally found a feature I need to share with you all. If ever I knew about this little gizmo, I forgot I did, but I do recall long ago finding out I could get at the online url's listed in my address book, I just forgot how I did it. (old age and stage gene) So, if you happen to use Netscape, this is a Share Thing for you. If you open your bookmark file, using the EDIT Bookmarks selection, you will get a full screen view of all your bookmarks. (I must have a gazillion of them, but if the bookmark files are closed, it doesn't look so fearful long.) Anyhow, what I saw was this: Up on the top right are two little arrows, each pointing to opposite directions. (I've successfully ignored those a LONG time.) With that Edit Book selection open, click on the little black pointy arrow on the left. And, over on the left of your screen, pick the Box of Folders you want opened, where it has a little PLUS + signs showing. That opens the folders and shows the websites stored in in. You will then see not only the Name of the website, you will see the URL for it over on the right of the screen. To make the url address go away, just go back to the top and hit the opposite black arrow, and it shuts off that URL address feature. Leaving the one on the left +/- open or shut is just your choice, but if you shut it, and you have the little Left Arrow on, it will not show the url's for that website. Nothing would be hurt, whichever way you left it. This would be handy for trying to get a url cut, copy and paste, in order to insert a web address into an email, quicker, but only by eliminating one step, as I see it. It would let you select edit/copy off the web address from this bookmark site without first having to open up the website to get it. One less little move, and a tad faster. Enough of that, got stuff to do. bj TXVICTOR-L List Manager
