Check this site, sent today by Edna LaFour. Thanks, Edna. KY is getting a big service done for all of us. Hope others notice and they all do that. Look on down at the bottom of this page for the links. Two of them, and one the one database, you'll get better results if you use just the surname, and change the spelling, trying variations of it. This page notice came across in my Rootsweb News Review subscription. It's a brand new website done by my own second cousin, Iris Guertin, who's also Victoria resident. She didn't mention it was coming, and I want to blow a horn for her. This is a massive amount of family tree work she's put together, and all the Victoria connected cousins can benefit. There are a number of us around. Maybe one of you might also have a connection someplace, and if so, great! Our thanks to you, Iris Rose Guertin, for sharing all your information with all the world and Victoria Countian's. (Love the backgrounds, and appropriate title, and I'm telling ALL the family I know to tell to check it out!) Billye D. (Cleveland) Jackson ROSE. The ROSE Tree. Hi, List friends, I just did a quick glance over on Ancestry.com to see what they had on census. I see they have 1790 and 1920, but on checking the 1920 state census, I see our own Victoria county there listed, and it's got the various divisions listed on a page where all of you can see it. If you wanted to look at the actual census, you'd have to join, but just thought you might want to know we're there! Check out this part of Victoria County! If this is last one is too long, start here, (directly to Victoria County site), go in pieces on Ancestry to get there: http://www.ancestry.com/search/io/main.htm (click on 1920-then Texas-then Victoria County) Or http://www.ancestry.com/search/io/chooseco.asp?c=3&state=Texas Or http://www.ancestry.com/search/io/chooseed.asp?c=3&state=Texas&F7=TX&county= Victoria&township=Unknown+Townships And, for all of you who haven't yet heard the NEW NEWS, our new Victoria County History book has come in, most of them, and are being distributed at our Victoria Mall location by our Society members. They are simply beautiful!! What a wonderful book. Aiken Press, the publishers, was heard to say it's one of the best they've seen done. The Society is going to enter it in the genealogy state publications competition. The price did go up on arrival of the books to the society. They aren't $80.00 any longer, they're $129.00 per set (two volumes), even to we members, now! We think they'll win a prize at state. If you're interested in buying a set while they last, contact me and I'll forward your note on to our project manager, Doris Obsta. Shipping is extra, $10.00. No tax. We've sold nearly 800 of the 1000 sets we ordered. Reprints later on are a very, very iffy proposition, we believe we won't be doing that. Now that people see them, they're wanting to buy them. If you do want a set, take my advice, don't wait long, you may not get them. Listmanager Billye D. Jackson

Snow White is making the rounds of some list groups, so notice this warning, it may be important to you. I don't want us to have it on this one. There are plenty of virus's around but this is one that gets to us List Groups, and is such a fresh one and I mention it because it went right by my McAfee Virus Checker! Other people are the reason it didn't make it, plus my own habits. It certainly did come to me, and would have possibly infected me had I not known about it! My McAfee virus checker, which has the newest/latest available (.dat) files available from them, did NOT stop 5 of the infected messages coming in to me, nor give me any warning they were virus infected. I did not open them, having been warned by the list already. There are a LOT of virus's out there, so it pays to keep your checker upgraded at a minimum of once a week, or you'll be getting one for Christmas or the New Year, for sure! However, I'm disappointed in my McAfee, which has let this slide right on it, had I not been warned, into my machine. Thank goodness for someone telling me. I have Office Outlook Email, which has an email blocker, so I do block any I think suspicious, and would have this one, as I didn't recognize the header, and it looked like a fun sex thing from the heading. I never open suspicious stuff, and not any trash I can identify as such, I just auto block it. Norton DOES have a description of the Snow White virus on their site, I'm told. I understand Norton is sending automatic warnings to their computer owners when it comes in, but if I hadn't had the list notice, I'd not have known it, because McAfee sure did not let ME know. I never open anything anymore that looks odd, nor even cute. Certainly none with " .exe" anyhow, and if it's not a gedcom (.exe) file from someone I know sending it to me that I wanted and asked for, I won't even open those. You'll see this one coming in from hahaha@sexyfun.net I think it is, but when it comes in, it will be about Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Watch it, delete it, don't open it. We don't want the list getting it. I don't like Virus warnings going to our list, and don't usually allow it, but as listmanager I think I'd be derelict in my job if I did not try to stop THIS one getting onto our list since I do belong to one list group that positively DOES have it on the list. I think I'll check into Norton prices. Billye D. Jackson Listmanager, TXVICTOR-L

If you find some time over this long weekend, you might want to check on RootsWeb for Research Resources for Texas, or for any other state, and see all that they offer, which is a LOT! This is worth bookmarking. The Jumping Off Place is here: http://www.rootsweb.com/roots-l/usa.html Billye D. Jackson
Some of you will want to see these, I'm sure! If you are having difficulty in locating records on distant ancestry, my cousin has okayed the sharing of her set of helpful web sites she uses to chase down those old records that reach back into our distant past. My appreciation to cousin Iris Guertin for allowing us to post all these. (I'm leaving a piece of her note, as it is also helpful.) Billye D. Searching around the web found quite a bit of information concerning the Flood family on the Kent Genuki website and the Langford ship list (below), as well as in the Order of Descendants of Ancient Planters of Virginia and Ancestry Online sites. A few of the items on the Ancestry site will have to have further research, but the files have given pointers and leads to individuals and references which are helpful. I thought it was very interesting, especially since it involves our county!! Whichever side you pull for during the Thanksgiving Day big football games, this comes under 'Need to Know" info. I wanted to share this tidbit with all of you who are "away" Victorian's, or maybe "away" Texans. Since it's pertinent to our own Victoria County, I asked Zia to share with you all this piece of Victoria Trivia. It's a major item on Thanksgiving Day, but just as important on the rest of the year to UT fans. May I join with Zia in wishing you all a happy, safe, holiday wherever you are. Billye D. Jackson Zia said: Texas Trivia Zia Miller, President of the Fannin Chapter, DRT With Turkey Day less than a week away, anticipation of the Big Game is growing. The game between Texas and A&M is always exciting to Texans regardless of you're alumna. Here is a little Texas trivia about Venable B. Proctor who lived in Victoria and practiced law. His grandson and great grandson have followed in the family practice. THE UNIVERSITY COLORS "University colors are officially orange and white." The Ranger, a weekly campus publication that preceded The Texan, proudly announced on April 4, 1900. For several years, the subject had been one that aroused deep feelings and diverse opinion. In 1885 a group of University students went down to the depot to see the baseball team off for their game with Southwestern University in Georgetown, thirty miles away. One coed had commented that the group of supporters needed some colors. Two young men, one of whom was Venable B. Proctor, ran back to Congress to the nearest store that sold ribbons and asked for two colors—any colors. The two available in quantity were orange and white, and the boys bought six bolts of each color and hurried back to pass out ribbons streamers before the train left.
