Need info on, Mr. and Mrs. DICK and NANCY (Nannie) JANE MATTHEWS who adopted GRACIE THOMAS(at least 1/2 indian) from ANNIE THOMAS in 1884 in Tarrant co. TX. Originally from NY, Dick was born in 1845 and had a sister, JULIANA and his mothers maiden name was JULIA SMITH. They were somehow connected to a LORA BELL SHAWVER who, at one point, lived in Clarenden TX. and is now buried in the same cemetery in Los Angeles. Dick, upon entering the civil war, changed his name to DAVID McHERD, for some unknown reason. Thanx Brigitte
