    1. Re: [TXTYLER-L] HOPSON and RAWLS
    2. Delilaby Hopson and Lena Rawls joined church on Sept 14, 1886. Both by baptism. E.H. Hopson and Georgia Hopson joined same day. Hopson and Hobson may be same people. I transcribed old documents as nearly to the original spelling as possible. Not sure what day of week Sept 14, 1886 was on. THis was a weekend revival. They were baptized in Wolfe Creek on Sunday morning at 11:00. The Hopsons moved and transferred their church membership by letter. Later a James Hopson and Elizabeth Hopson joined by profession of faith. Not sure of date but before Sept 1894. W. Rawls joined at some point before by Aug 1888.Sally Rawls joined Sept 14, 1866. and was baptized on Tuesday at 2:00 in Wolfe Creek. Wm. P Rawls, M.M. Rawls and Mary Rawls joined on Thursday after the Sept 14, 1886 service. This must have been a protracted revival meeting. On Saturday in Sept 1894 Sister Martha Rawls shows up being accused of dancing. L.L. Rawls shows up in church minutes on Sept 15, 1894. Also found L.C. Rawls name. No date for him. Ben Rawls shows up several times. Ben and Lena Rawls excluded from church for a time for dancing. Rejoined later. G.W. Rawls shows up on a list of members. No dates.Elisha Rawls and Penny Rawls joined church by faith, no date. Ruthie Rawls and Sister Jackson Rawls joined by faith in July 1909. Ella Rawls joined September 1909 on faith. Oma Rawls joined May 20, 1909, by baptism. Dora Rawls joined July 17, 1911. Shade and Larence Rawls joined by baptism Aug 5, 1916. Ella Rawls was a messenger Aug 24, 1918. O;helia Rawls joined church by baptism on Aug 13, 1921. Gilder Rawls' name shows up on July 26, 1925. She and Shade had been restored to the church. Shade was excluded for a time for drinking. Hershall Rawls joined July 26, 1925. Francis Rawls restored to church same weekend. Hope this helps. Minutes were hard to read and had many pages missing. Charlie L. Reynolds Port Neches, TX

    1. [TXTYLER-L] HOPSON and RAWLS
    2. Dear Mr. Reynolds, I was very interested in your email pertaining to Ebenezer Baptist Church. I have several family members buried in the cemetery. This is a tremendous service you have performed, the transcription of the church's minutes. I am seeking information referencing the HOPSON and RAWLS surnames within the church minutes. Any affirmed reference would certainly enhance my knowledge of my family and would truly be appreciated. I would certainly have more to tell my granchildren. Thank you for your contribution. I lokk forward to any information, comments, or suggestions you may have. Sincerely, Douglas Anderson La Porte, TX

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/DAC.2ACI/354.405 Message Board Post: William Edward Riley was born in Lancaster County, Pa. His parents came from Northern Ireland. He was a spy in the American Revolution and indeed he was a party to the "tea party". He had 4 children...One of them was Edward Miles Riley who fought in the Civil War.....Edward Miles Riley had several children....I can give you names if you like. Three of them came to Texas. James Columbus Riley married a Choctaw Indian woman. Her name was Nancy Matilda Chandler...John Riley married Delila Fortenberry. Also a descendent of the Choctaw tribes. The third brother moved to West Texas and was never heard from again. Both James Columbus and John settled in Tyler County. James Columbus in Chester Tx and John in Woodville Tx. Edward Miles Riley is my direct descendent from William Edward Riley. I have more if you would like to have it. Also, Mount Zion cemetary is where all of James Columbus descendents are buried. Some of John's family is there as well. Most of Johns family is at Magnolia Cemetary. Mount zion cemetary is between Woodville and Chester. If you are familiar with that area, you will know about Kirkley Springs. That is where t! he Riley Reunion is held on the last Sunday in August each year. Mount Zion is about 3 or 4 miles on toward Chester and on the right side of the road. There are people there in Woodville who have a lot of info about the Riley's.

My great-grandfather cut timber in that same area about that same time.
