Hi Everybody, Greetings. My name is Robert Leonard HUMBLE. Usually called Bob. My wife is named Fumi. I was born in Colorado in 1931. Fumi was born in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. We live now in Las Vegas, NV. I'm retired, used to be an electronics technician both during a 21 year military career and in the corporate world. Fumi is a home maker and a retired entrepreneur. We have three kids and three grand children. Isham Smith HUMBLE, my 2d great grandfather, and my 2d great grandmother Sarah D. RATCLIFF came to Tyler County probably about 1846. They were in the 1850 Tyler County census as follows: 1850 Tyler Co TX Census Fmly #167 Isham HUMBLE 40 MISS, Sarah D 32 MISS, Nancy A L 13 LA, Charlotte 9 LA, Thomas L 7 LA, Peter A 9/12 TX; bor Jacob C HUMBLE fmly is only other Humble fmly in TX index #169 The 1860 census: 21 July 1860 Woodville PO, Tyler Co TX Census I S HUMBLE 50 MISS, S B 42 MISS, T L 16 LA, P A 10 TX, H A V 8 TX The 1870 census: 1870 Woodville PO, Tyler Co TX Census fmly #841 Isam S HUMBLE 60 LA farmer $500 real estate, $2490 pers propt; Sarah B 52 LA, Thomas L 26 LA teamster $250 pers propt; Henry G 21 LA Peter A. (Adolphus) is my great grandfather. The daughter Charlotte died in Tyler County in 1859. She and Isham and Sarah were members of the Rocky Hill Baptist Church at that time. The son Thomas L. (Leonard) went to the War Between the States and lost a leg. I don't know how he lost it. I've got some later information on him in West Texas, but no details of his wartime service. Peter Adolphus and Tom went to West Texas. I believe Tom died in Arkansas. I know Peter died in 1935 in Big Spring. The Jacob C. HUMBLE mentioned in the 1850 census was Isham's brother. I believe he went on the Hardin County, and I know some of his children were living in Hardin County in 1896. They were involved in an interesting incident that I'd like to get more information on and will post it later. I'm looking forward to hearing any information anyone in the group may have about this family. I'm sure Charlotte was buried in Tyler County and it seems a good possibility that Isham and Sarah were too. Best regards to everyone. Tyler County List Members, I want you all to know that I've received a couple of excellent member introductions, but they were sent to me personally. I should have made my message a little more plain. Please send your responses to the list so everyone can get to know everyone else on our list. I have ask those who sent the messages to me for permission to forward them to the list and as soon as that is confirmed I will forward them. I think most of the correspondence on this list should go to the whole list unless it's really private in nature. For the most part, it seems that if your kin to one person in Tyler County; somehow, some way, you are connected to nearly everyone else. This list is so new, I believe we will all have to learn as we go. Happy Hunting, Barbara Dore (aka) [email protected] ------------------------------
In case you did not get my message to added to your database, I'll try again. I am researching my husband's family. He is descended from Mary Elizabeth (Polly) Collier Freeman through her son, James Torrence Freeman who married Mary Angeline Reid. Their daughter Mary Jane (Polly) Freeman married James Cheslie Yawn. These were my husband's grandparents. Donna Schultz Rt. 3, Box 449B Jefferson, TX 75657 [email protected] [email protected] ------------------------------
I got it through AOL Donna Schultz ------------------------------
Good morning Tyler County Rooters, Well, I have my mail back, finally, since Friday (2:00pm). Did I miss anything? I've still got some mail dribbling in from Saturday, but I've only gotten 2 from the list members and those were sent to me personally. If you sent anything to me personally, you better send it again. As of midnight last night we had 20 members on the list. Now, I know I'm probably kin to at least half of you and I love to talk genealogy. One nice thing about a small list where there's a good chance we're kin is that we can talk about anything to do with genealogy or Tyler Co. First of all, I want to introduce myself. I was born and raised in Port Neches, TX. Lived there all my life except for about 5 years when I lived in Port Arthur. I moved to Nederland in 1995. My mother and father were born and raised in mostly in Sabine County. My fathers mother was Maggie Horn Yancey, who was born in the Beech Creek Community of Tyler Co. and lived most of her married life at Brookeland, TX. Before Rayburn Lake was filled, my grandparents were forced to sell their place at Brookeland and they moved about two miles south of Spurger. Mothergrand, as she was called, was the daughter of Wm. Henry Horn (of the Magnolia Springs Horns) and Johnnie Ann Collier. Johnnie Ann Collier was the daughter of Capt. James Gautney Collier, who founded the Beech Creek Baptist Church in Tyler Co. I've been doing research for about 23 years and Tyler Co. was were I got my feet went in the wonderful "hobby". I've been "computing" since 1982 but sometimes still feel like real newbie at it and I really am one when it comes to the Internet. I wish each one of you members would tell us a little about yourselves. It's OK if all this is new to you and your just getting started. Maybe with the media that we have today your search won't be as hard as those that have gone before you. This is your list and I need you to let me know what direction you would like it to go. ANY IDEAS?? I would really like for it to be more than just a place to post queries because we already have a place for that. You tell me what you would like. Please remember to put at least your first name and email address in the text of your messages for those that will be printing them out, otherwise we might not be able to get back in touch when we finally dig up you ancestor or find the answer to your question. Also let everyone know if you have a homepage even if it's not genealogy related. Have a Happy Hunting day, Barbara Dore (aka) [email protected] http://members.aol.com/RootsLady/index.htm Listmother: TXTYLER-L (I'm old enough to be a grandmother, but I'm not so I'll have to settle for Listmother <G> ------------------------------
This is to let everyone on the list know that I haven't received any mail from RootsWeb, Maiser or any other server but AOL since 2:00pm Friday. It's now 9:25pm Saturday. MSN claims it's not on their end!! (Yea, right). If you need to get a message to me fast, try.... [email protected] I have no idea if this message will get out, so if you would, send me a "I got it!" through AOL, please. At least I'll know I'm getting out through MSN. Thanks and I'll talk to you'll later, I HOPE. Barbara Dore (aka) RootsLady ------------------------------
Barbara, Please add me to your database: Brenda Perkins 930 10th St. Huntington Beach, CA 92648 714-536-7340 I'm researching primarily descendents of Dr. Stephen Pelham Willson and wife Mary (Polly) Richardson (Davis) Willson of Peachtree Village/the old Sulfur Springs Sanatorium/Chester. I would love to find his parentage in NY but I suspect that that information never was in TX except in his memory. I have quite a bit of info on the family. Thanks for doing this! Brenda ------------------------------
I thought you were asking for help and I was asking what kind of work you needed to see if I might be able to help. Helen ------------------------------
Great work you are doing! Patricia Jones Reece (Pat) 901 Silbury Dr Austin TX 78758-3934 E-mail: [email protected] 512-837-7309 home 512-863-5331 work Researching: Watts and Richardsons and related families. My grandmother Jones was Carroll Watts daughter, Lucy Clementine. Last November I was in Jasper & Tyler Counties to see if there was anything further to add to the Watts saga before submitting the family to the Pioneers of the Republic of Texas project. Didn't find anything new but keep hoping those missing bits of info will turn up. (please don't mention Jimmy Jones - we have been searching for one for many years. The problem is - there are too many of them!) Pat ------------------------------
Good Morning Tyler County Rooters and Welcome to the List, I'm pleased to announce that as of midnight last night we had 14 members signed up. I would like to ask each of you to send me an email with your full name, email address (or) addresses if you have more than one. If you would like to have me add your full name, address, telephone, fax number, etc. to a off-line database so that if we lose track of you because of ISP changes, leaving the list, etc. I would be pleased to have those also. I want to thank K.C. Hale for letting us know about the possible Tyler Co. Genealogical Society starting. I think it would be wonderful. K.C., if you would keep the list informed as to the status of that effort, I know the whole list would appreciate it. Let the list know what we might do to help. I need everyone's help with suggestions, comments, etc. for this list and the Tyler County TxGenWeb Project as a whole. I am also looking for a couple of people with html experience and some time on your hands to help with the Tyler County Page as assistant County Coordinators. Trying to handle 8 counties and this list is more than a full time job. I've got several projects in mind for Tyler County and I can't find the time to do all the typing. I've started on a 1850 "working" census (like I did for Newton County) but I'm not getting very far. I also have some marriage records (post 1900) that Frances Pennington, Jackie Barnes, and myself transcribed several years ago. It appears that most of my mail problems have finally cleared up since MSN replaced their servers. They had been having problems with the one that handled members with last names starting with "B/C/D/T/Z" for some time. (I knew I should have married Jimmy Jones <G>). If you have sent surnames that aren't posted yet, I might not have received them, so please send again. Well, I've rattled long enough this morning. I do thank all of you again for your support for this list and the Tyler County TxGenWeb Project. Happy Hunting, Barbara Yancey Dore (aka) [email protected] ------------------------------
I am forwarding this query to the list for Marie Bayless. she will be joining us shortly. The only thing I could find was in the 1920 census, Thanks to Dottie Johnson. It showed a Marion A. Sloan in the Steele Grove area working at the Sawmill. If anyone can add anymore I'd Appreciate it. Also I intend to keep copies of all queries and place them once a month in the Whitmeyer Genealogy Library. Keep em coming, KC

Hello to all on the list! First off let me say thanks to Barbara for her FANTASTIC WORK on the Tyler County Home page andd for getting this list started. We just completed a three week genealogy course at the Whitmeyer Library here in Woodville and for those who were not able to make it you misses a lot of good information. The course which was supposed to be a basic genealogy course ended up being more than that. Francis Pennington taught the class and gave us loads of information on where to find information, how to double check for errors and so much more. During the class today we discussed the possibility of starting the Tyler County Genealogical Society. Not to take away from the East Texas Society but to help add to it. Our gaol would be to increase the information available about Tyler County, Texas. We are just in the absolute beginning stages of talking about this but I would like to know if anyone else out ther would be interested in either joining or helping get this off the ground. Please let me know as we would like to get going as soon as possible. Thanks for your time and don't forget to visit the Library. It's located at the Heritage Village Museum in Woodville, Texas. Thanks, Keith Hale ------------------------------
