However, the Airforce, Navy, Army, Coastguard, and Marines frequently sent out recruiters to the small towns, especially if they were college towns, where they signed men up. Then the men were transported to the main recruiting office where they were tested, given a physical and sworn in. This was my experience in 1943. They gave me a bus ticket, a hotel voucher, and sent me to Dallas where I was processed. If any recruiting records exist they probably show I was recruited in Dallas.
