Obviously, that can't be correct, as Groveton isn't in Houston County. Does anyone have a cemeteries book that would tell me when he IS buried? His dates are 1822 - 1868. His wife, Mary Ann [Arledge], and his son, John Milton Gary [1864-1902] are buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Crockett, but where in the older Dr. Gary buried? Any information about Dr. Gary would be greatly appreciated. Family lore indicates that he was killed in an ambush while making a house call. Or was that the younger Dr. Gary? or both?

Anyone know where I can get a copy of the book Trinity County Beginnings by Joseph Hensley mentioned in this list. We have two lines there before 1855. Sounds like this book would help alot. Thanks, Maggie and JD

Capers while Starling the Elder is buried at Taylor. Supposedly, my grandfather, Lee Williams, is buried at "Capers Hill", at least that's what my grandmother always told me. Sorry if I mixed up my facts in the messages. Lee died in the fall of 1917, either northwest of Lufkin in Angelina County, or at Pagoda in Trinity County. So, is there a Capers Hill cemetary in Angelina county, or did grandmother bury Lee at Mt. Capers in San Jac county. Their only daughter, Flonnie, is buried at Taylor cemetary (she died in 1919). Lee's father, Starling, died in Pagoda in 1925, while living with my grandmother and her second husband. That Starling is buried in Taylor Cemetary. I remember going to see Lee's grave when I was 8 or 9. With so little documentation on these three guys, it's hard to be certain who belongs to whom. Glad to hear from you again. Ron

Since this is the Centerville area it is possible to believe they lived around there. There are a lot of Bennett's there also so maybe she wanted to be with her family.Since there are 22 Kennedys listed they might be your kin too.Sincerly,Mary A.

Both married like four times each, both lived in San Jac, Trinity and Polk counties, both were Baptist ministers, etc. Starling Williams the Elder shows up on the Trinity County census in 1900 but that's the only time either of them shows up. Kinda hard to figure which one was married to whom at what time. Good luck with keeping up with the Joneses! Ron

According to what I have been told, unless a slave specialized in a skill, that made him stand out above the rest...they were registered by their first names only and very little information about the previous owners. So you understand the frustration. The only other thing i can think of are the census reports, because birth certificates were not mandatory for years later. Good luck to you too!

The only other help I can be, I think is that John H. was supposedly born in Cambridge, Maryland. I hope that will help. He eventually had a boy child, John Orville Wheeler. You are so luck to have been born in Trinity. I love that city! As far as I have been able to determine, we did not have any plantations or slaves, though. But, then again, I have hit some road blocks, also. Good luck in your research. Sincerely, Mary Jane
