He migrated to MS, LA and eventually Polk County TX where he died in 1851. He was married twice and had two sons by his second wife. One of these sons was named Manton Marsh who came to Texas about 1848 where he married Cynthia Gilbert. b. LA about 1828. They had four sons and four daughters. When she died in 1909, it was reported that the funeral was attended by a son from West Texas, Mr. E. N. Marsh. What these initials stand for I do not know, but his date of birth was probably around 1850.

I was trying to see if someone from the Leroy Dillard Marsh family had any info on the Rook family. The William Morgan who first answered my query had info on the Marsh family, you might contact him. In part of what he sent me mentions a Evander Jerome on page 233. A few members of the Marsh family moved to South Texas shortly after 1850. From what he sent me there must be a book on the Marsh family. I have found several Marsh families in Rapides Parish, LA prior to 1850 and in east Texas after that time. I think the John Marsh family that came from LA in about 1848 lived in the Colita, TX area, if that helps.

The family moved to Robertson Co., TX for the 1880 census. They are listed as D. R. Slaughter, wife Margarett, R.W. (m)age 19, M.O. (f) age 17 and C.B. (m) age 15. The David on the 1870 census now has his own family in 1880. The family moved back to Trinity Co. and I am in the process of finding them on the 1900 Trinity Co. census. I have the son David and his family in 1910 and 1920 Trinity Co., TX. The male Charlie on the 1870 census and C.D. on the 1880 census may be the C. D. Slaughter that married Catherine. Do you have any more info on the rest of the Slaughters I am researching. Also do you have access to marriage records for Trinity County. I am trying to find marriages for this family. Julia Lee
