However, the Airforce, Navy, Army, Coastguard, and Marines frequently sent out recruiters to the small towns, especially if they were college towns, where they signed men up. Then the men were transported to the main recruiting office where they were tested, given a physical and sworn in. This was my experience in 1943. They gave me a bus ticket, a hotel voucher, and sent me to Dallas where I was processed. If any recruiting records exist they probably show I was recruited in Dallas.

Jewel asked: << Can anyone tell me where men went to enlist in the service during WW1? Men in Trinity County, did they go to another county? Please let me hear from someone out there.>> ----------------------- I thought "Trinity County Beginnings" had a photo of young men leaving to go to their place of enlistment in World War I. Don't see it in the WWI section of the book; perhaps it was in the Groveton Jubilee book. Will take a look later..... Aloha, Richard Ballard

I know that Caladonia was a daughter of Joel and Malinda. They also had a daughter named Martha. Do you have any informatin on Caladonia? I think tha she died in childbirth having my ggrandfather, Jame Eli Pipes. I find William and James living with Martha Hawthorne (who I believe is Martha Clapp) in the 1860 Liberty Co. census. Then in the 1860-70 census, James was alone, living with Martha who apparently had married a Thomas Clark. William had been killed at Fredricksburg during the Civil War. I need to make a definite link that this is my James. Do you know where Caladonia died or where she is buried? Please give me any information that you can. If you are interested in anything that I have, I would be happy to share with you. Thanks in advance for your reply. Please respond to jacksgirl5@aol.com. Thanks in advance for your reply. Caladonia and William married in Limestone Co. (now Freestone Co., TX) in the 1800's. Caladonia was born in TX after they immigrated to TX in 1836. As near as I can figure 1837 or 1838. She was next to youngest child, Texana Virginia.

TX, they all settled in and around Pennington, many are buried in Pennington Cemetery. Yes, Pennington is in Trinity County, TX. We also have a tie in with the Gaston's. Our gggrandfather Stephen Elbert Henderson's sister Mary Francis b. 1854 married William Riley Gaston b. 1849 son of Gibson Gaston & Jane Killian of Trinity Co., TX.
I wonder if anyone here might be able to verify the marriage between Rev Victor A. Godbey and Civility Moses (Siddie) Platt Stevenson in Trinity Co, probably shortly after 1920? Aunt Siddie had previously been married to William Joseph (Dr. Joe) Stevenson, M.D. He died in 1916 and is buried in Glenwood Cemetery. Aloha, Richard Ballard

It also showed all of the little places around it. Since Pennington is located on the line, I could see how family members gave such conflicting reports, ie: your grandmother was from Trinity, your grandfather worked for your grandmother's father one summer in Lovelady, Houston Co., married her and brought her back to Polk Co., etc. Whoever she is, I really appreciate the map. Thanks! Janet
