Someone else had already told me where and how to get the book. I have sent my money and already received the book. I appreciate you taking your time to give me all the information. I hope to get to Groveton again, soon, and get to the museum. I have been to the courthouse a couple of times. I can't tell you how friendly everyone has been and how much I enjoy finding my roots. I even enjoyed the little gas station/coffee shop! Thanks again. Mary Jane Pipes Frank

There was a series on several families coming into Louisiana including the Johnstons that ran in the Groveton News in October of 1998 called "Kinsearching". You might also want to check "Confederate Pension Applications Trinity County, Texas" by Frances Terry Ingmire, 1981 in the Montgomery County, Texas library in Conroe. Marie Constance was also descended from the Gautreaux family, "Guttro" that came from Canada in the "Evangeline" exiles. They can be traced back to France. They lived in Snow Hill Maryland after the Acadian exile before coming to Louisiana. David and Isaac's father was descended from a Johnson who married a Rachel Arrenton or Harrington in the Carolinas. But I dont want to go into details about the family here. The Quintero line comes from Manuel Quintero(s) who was a Spaniard commander, a sergent, when Spain briefly took over Louisiana from France in the 18th century. Dr. Tommy Knox of San Antonio, Texas has more detail about this Johnson family.

David's wife was Frances and Isaac's wife was Pheba, shown as Feriby on the 1860 Walker County census. David was 52 in 1850 and Isaac was 49. Both were born in Louisiana, as were all their children. Both wives were born in South Carolina. David's children are listed as Racheal, 20; John, 24; Elizabeth, 15; Matilda, 13; Cushman H., 11. Also listed in David's houshold are William M. Keller, 7; Thomas Johnston, 43; and Racheal Masters, 46. Isaac's children are listed as Mathew, 16; George, 13; Matilda, 11; Lavinia, 9; and Mary, 7. Robert Isaac had probably left the household by then. Listings on FamilySearch show a David Johnston who was born in LA in 1798 and died in Walker County, TX. His parents are shown as Henry Isaac Johnston and Marie Constance Quintero. His wife is listed as Francis Nelson. A listing for Racheal Johnston shows that she married George Masters in Opalousas, LA. There was no source material for these listings. I wonder if David, Isaac, Thomas and Racheal Johnston Masters are the children of Henry Isaac Johnston and Marie Constance Quintero. They were married in 1796, so the ages of the four would fit. None of the family trees on Ancestry or Rootsweb show that there were children and most of the entries show the last name as Johnson. Does any of this information fit with what you have? I'm looking for my grandmother, Frances Cunningham, whose mother's name was Matilda Johnson (Johnston?) Cunningham. Matilda was born in LA about 1837 or 1838 and raised her children in Trinity County, Texas.
