I have census records (1870-1930) but there are inconsistancies. I would like to know where these families were before coming to Trinity and Houston counties. Were they slaves? If so where did they migrate from (states, cities, counties). Thanks in advance for any info. You may email me at jolajo123@aol.com

Surnames: TINES TYNES MAGEE AVERY Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VlB.2ACE/984.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks Catherine. From what I've been told, the Trinity County Beginnings book says that Susie TINES's parents were Mary Melissia MAGEE and her first husband, "A TINES". I don't know whether this means A is his initial, or he was just "a TYNES" whose first name is unknown. There is an R. H. TYNES on the 1860 census for Trinity County, age 26, born in Alabama. He appears again in Company E of the 7th Cavalry during the Civil War, and may have died in the war, as I see no more record of him anywhere. If he was Mary Melissia's husband, it would make sense, since she remarried shortly after the war to Rufus AVERY. Unfortunately for that theory, Susie, on the 1880 census, said her father was born in Louisiana, not Alabama. (Maybe she just didn't know.)

Glenwood Cemetery (located on W 6th St in Groveton, TX) C.C. Magee 1854 1947 Susie Magee 1861 1947 According to Trinity Co. Beginnings.... "Christopher Columbus, born November 26, 1854, died 1947, married Susan Tines, born 1861, died 1947. They had one child, Lilly, born 1881, died 1938, who married 1st Washburn and 2nd Baker. Christopher and his wife are buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Groveton, Texas." There are no Tines/Tynes shown as buried in Trinity Co. thus I would guess they were from neighboring counties. According to Beginnings, the Magees arrived in Texas in 1848 living in Tyler, Newton, Polk and Trinity counties. C.C. "Lum" was a blacksmith at the Carmona Mill and he lived in Groveton with his wife. Good luck with your search! Catherine

Did they have any children other than Lillian? Thanks for any information.
