ADAIR, GODFREY, McKINNEY, SHERMAN & other surnames that went to TEXAS?. on my homepages in the LEWIS SURNAMES are a number of people going to TX from CLAIBORNE Co.TN. reason i posted this is that my great uncle JAMES HOUSTON MOORE said his dad was JACK MOORE from TX. he is missing. MOOREs & MAYES.. MAYS,, MAZE. ADAIR, GODFREY, McKINNEY, SHERMAN & other surnames that went to TEXAS?. on my homepages in the LEWIS SURNAMES are a number of people going to TX from CLAIBORNE Co.TN. thats our brickwall.we think that if that MOORE defender of the ALAMO was from CLAIBORNE County. he may be related to or the father? of my great grand father JACK MOORE he married? no papers. a NANCY MAYES from MO. about 186-6. as 1 son THOMAS JEFFERSON MOORE was born August 1861 in MO. as he states in censuses.. JACK later about 1879-80 left the family of 6. he returned some 20 yrs later. an argument started.he left.never heard of again.his name was forbidden to be said.so as time went he faded from memory. on my pages is a huge LEWIS family surnames list from a book "OLD TIME TAZEWELL" by MARY HANSARD. it has many marriages, childrens names places they moved.. In it is a MOORE killed at the ALAMO. on the defenders list it has a cousin of his killed also. as i research i think my elusive great grandfather JACK MOORE is related to 1 of these MOOREs. as his son HOUSTON said his dad was from TX. if anyone has mystery MOORE,,MOOR,,MORE,,MOHR. thanks Ray Moore. If you want go to www.wallisville.com and pull up the Wallisville Heritage Park. Hello and not to confuse you my ancestor is Garner Mayes from Amelia, Virginia born in 1774. I am not sure if I have talked to you before, but if I did I believe it was a while back. Garner married Elizabeth Jackson and she was born in Amelia, Virginia in 1785. They were married in Knox Co., Tennessee on June 6, 1808 and some time in the early 1800's moved to Williamson co., Franklin, Tennessee. In and around 1836 Garner loaded his family up and moved to Double Bayou, Texas. This was at that time Liberty Co., Texas, but it is now Chambers County, Texas. This is positioned between Houston and Beaumont Texas on the coast. Have you ever heard of this crew? I would love to figure out who my Garner Mayes' mother and father are,,,,Let me hear from you,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Virginia My Garner did also at times pop up Maze,,,,,,,,,,,I found where he was listed in Austin, Texas, Travis Co., Maze/Mayes and he owned 640 acres 7 miles south of the middle of Austin, Texas. His land was the land adjoining Thomas McKinney's Ranch, also known as McKinney State Park. But McKinney's land is from Sidney Sherman in a land grant and the other land was surrounded by men that fought around the Alamo, but Garner wasn't suppose to have come to Texas from Tennessee until about 1836, well he obviously was here before then to get prime Texas land by the State Capitol. Garner's wife was a Jackson and the Jackson family was kin to the Moore family. These Moores show up in Davidson Co., Tennessee and this set of Jackson's go back to Ballybay, Ireland and were in the linen business. I have been trying to pull my Jackson line and this Jackson line together, because there is a Jackson family that came around the same time as the Mayes crew to Double Bayou from Nashville through New Orleans and I bet we are kin,,,,,,,,,,,both ranching families and have traded land and favors and have been buddies since the early 1800's.....Also the Mayes family here, my family, was suppose to be kin to Thomas Jefferson,,,,,could we be in?????????????????? Let me hear from you,,,,,,,,,,Virginia .. Forks of the Cypress No. 1 O.K. look at this. This is the exact set of Jacksons that are here with us. My Garner married Elizabeth Jackson and they were married in Knoxville, Tennessee in June of 1808. When Garner and Elizabeth left Tennessee they were suppose to have traveled on a flat boat and landed in Double Bayou, Texas and were suppose to be no kin to the Jacksons in Double....I don't believe it!!!!! The Jacksons that we are not suppose to be kin to were suppose to have come from Ireland to St.Landry Parish and Vermillion Parish, Louisiana. Well, I have found the not-kin Jacksons in Davidson County, Tennessee in the Davidson Co., Tennessee Wills and Inventories-Volume two-1816-1830, good book. There is a pile of Moore's in this book. In this website I sent you Moores marry Jacksons. And I have found who I believe to either be Garner's sisters or aunts and , one of them marrys a Childress,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Oh and Garner and Elizabeth brought a black woman to Texas named Martha Mayes and she married a Zacariah Godfrey. Well, what do you think????????????????Virginia Well, I do not know about Mexican blood, but if you go back in Virginia far enough there was Indian slaves and Samuel Mayes married Nancy Adair and she was Indian and they moved to Mayes Co., Oklahoma. And they started the Indian Mayes group there. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Virginia researching MOOR,MORE,MOORE,MAYS,MAYES, TOWNSLEY,WHITEACRE,WHITEAKER, WHITAKER,REECE,STAMPER.NORTH,PECK, GRUBBS,GRAY.these last 2 are in KNOX Co.TN.note some above names are other researchers. my webpage http://tippytnn.topcities.com/moore/moore.htm -- http://www.fastmail.fm - IMAP accessible web-mail
