    3. The Austin Genealogical Society is conducting a three-class course for the beginning genealogist. If you are interested in learning your family's history but don't quite know how or where to start, these classes will help you begin your search in an organized, logical way. Introduction to Genealogy Feb. 5 - Getting Started: Forms, interviews, correspondence, planning, census records, TSL resources & tour of the Texas State Library Feb. 12 - Local Resources & Other Records: Vital Records, Population Schedules and other census schedules, Federal records other than census, local area resources, documenting sources Feb. 19 - Introduction to Internet Genealogy: Genealogy websites, search engines, research techniques, locating living persons, exchanging information online Location: Texas State Library, 1201 Brazos, Room 202, Austin, Texas Cost is $10 for the 3-class course. Genealogy on the Computer As a supplement to the above classes, AGS is also presenting two hands-on computer classes. February 26 - Internet Genealogy provides hands-on computer training including individual computer access for each student, information about search engines, research techniques, using free and paid genealogy websites, and tips, tricks & precautions March 5 - Introduction to Family Tree Maker will walk you through how to create a family tree file, how to set preferences, entering data for the nuclear family, citing sources, how to prepare, print and view reports, family group sheets, pedigree charts, etc., together with how to import and export data Cost: cost for the computer classes is $20 for AGS members and $25 for non-members.
