    1. [TXTRAVIS] Looking for information on Eliza F. Miller HALL, b 10/11/1860 in Liberty Hill, TX, died in Austin, Travis Co., Texas
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Miller, Hall, Hewitt, Russell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CAC.2ACI/383 Message Board Post: ELIZA F. MILLER (Father: ANDREW JACKSON MILLER, Grandparents: JOHN & POLLY MILLER) was born October 11, 1860 in Liberty Hill, Texas, and died most probably in Austin, Travis County, Texas. She married MISTER HALL sometime after 1880, probably in Williamson County, Round Rock Twp., Texas. Eliza married a man whose last name was HALL. We do not know his first name. We also know from family correspondence and her mother's (Nancy Jane Russell Miller) Obituary that Eliza and her family lived in Austin, Texas for many years. Eliza's mother, Nancy Jane Miller, was living with her in Austin when she died on April 29, 1925 or 26. Eliza's uncle was John T. Miller who owned and operated the Eclipse Livery in Austin, Texas in the 1880's. Marriage Notes for ELIZA MILLER and MISTER HALL: Eliza is mentioned in the 1880 Federal Census as being 19 and still living at home. That same census also lists her middle initial as "F ". Her mother’s sister, Frances, died at the young age of 15 and consistent with the social trends of that day, she probably named Eliza after her sister. NOTE: We have maybe a half dozen photographs of Eliza and her family. One shows Nannie Russel Miller with Eliza, Lottie, and a grandchild whom I believe to be Leonard Jr. (This assumption may not be correct) A copy of that photo is attached in the hopes of someone recognizing the parties. Judging by Eliza’s date of birth of 1860, and the lack of birth control back then, her first child would probably have been born between 1880 and 1882, and that child’s first child could have been born about 1899 to 1902. Their clothes are a distinct clue to the approximate dates of the photographs, ergo that photograph was probably taken in the very late 1800’s or very early 1900’s. We have photographs of a Lila. There is no last name mentioned, but the notation “a Miller” is written on the photo. We have three photographs of her as she has grown up. In the last, most recent photo is written: Lila and her new husband <then the photograph was cut which cut off the first part of the husband’s first name> ….ard Hewitt. One photo which bears the name “Lila” is printed on a Post Card with a 1 cent stamp and addressed to “Miss Emma Leata Hall, Liberty Hill, Texas”. The short note is signed “L.H.” Since this was sent TO Emma Leata, I think we can assume that Lila is not Emma Leata’s daughter, and is probably the daughter of Lottie. We have a photograph of Emma Leata and a second one of a Tom Stephens upon which is written: Emma Leata’s husband. Nannie Russell Miller’s Obituary names a T. Stephens as being a husband of a granddaughter and one of her pall bearers. . We have several photographs of LEONARD Jr. growing up into a dapper, handsome young man. We know that all of these photographs were developed in Austin, Texas from the developer’s stamp on the back of the photographs. We believe that Leonard is connected through Lottie because she has signed her name on the back of one of his photos taken of him as a child. We have several photographs of Eliza walking on a glacier with another woman who looks like she could be Lila at an older age. Child of ELIZA MILLER and MISTER HALL is: i. LOTTIE HALL, b. In or near Austin, Travis County, Texas. Married Leonard H..... ii EMMA LEATA HALL A clue: from the post card to Emma Leata Hall was signed with the initials “L.H.” would seem to indicate that Lottie married a man with the surname beginning with an “H” . A photo of a male child is inscribed by Lottie: “Leonard Jr.” A letter from Aunt Nannie Standlee (Eliza's sister,Nancy Miller) dated Thursday p.m. 12/28/1961 states: "I guess you know Lottie and Emma Leata are both dead." In another letter from "Aunt Mollie" dated January 2, 1948 with a return address on the outside of the envelope of 309 Boren Street, Henderson, Texas, Aunt Mollie says "EMMA LETAH wrote that Alex's cousin, JOHN who still lived in Liberty Hill, TX, his wife and oldest son were all dead. Children of LOTTIE HALL and Unknown husband: i. LEONARD , Jr. ii. LILA married Mr. Hewitt Bottom line: I am still looking to unravel this segment of our Miller Family. Any help whatsoever will be greatly appreciated.

    3. Does anyone on the list have access to an index of the 1900 Travis County Census? Or, does anyone know where I could obtain one? I live in northeast Texas, too far from Austin to visit the library. I just bought a CD containing images of the census. Unfortunately, it doesn't have an index. I'm looking for families named ASHMORE and BELL in the Manor community. Also, while looking through the images, I found many pages shown as being enumerated in what looks like "Manda City." Most of the adults enumerated were born in Sweden or Germany. I'm thinking this might be the area of New Sweden, but I've never heard of Manda. Does anyone know of this community? Thanks for any help anyone can give me. RuthAnn

    2. john s. chapman
    3. I did some checking but couldn't find an obit for Nancy Rogers. I don't know how much of this you know, but she appears to be buried in the Bratton Cemetery in northern Travis County. The information gives her birthdate as July 25, 1832 and her death as Feb. 11, 1898. Apparently buried in the same plot (all Rogers) are: George- June 13, 1861 to Nov. 15, 1907; James- Mar. 11, 1819 to Nov. 10, 1864; Mary A.- May 31, 1864 to Jan. 5, 1865 and Nancy E.- Mar. 5, 1854 to Oct. 2, 1854. In addition, the 1870 and 1880 censuses indicate she had these children living at the time: Francis, born in Texas about 1853; John D., born in Texas about 1855; James A., born in Texas about 1858 and George, born in Texas about 1860. You can find the 1880 census at FamilySearch.org by looking for N.E. Rogers in Travis Co, Texas. The son Frank is married and is the next family. 3. In 1967, I found a photo album in Austin, Texas.  I came across this album in an attic of an old apartment building, possibly on N. Lamar or Burnet road.  The photos are no longer in the album, but most of the thirty photos are in excellent condition.  There are only a few names on the photos but there are many studio names and locations associated with these photos.  The centralized locale of where these photos were taken would suggest that these people lived in the area along the once famous Chislm Trail. The photos are likely from the mid to late 1800’s and a few from the early 1900’s.   I would like to find the family of these photos.  Please Contact Me If These Names Are Part Of Your Family.   PERSONS NAMES: Briant  or Broint Wilson, Bill Facing/Forcing (hard to read---it is a tintype photo and it was with others that are from Shelbyville Kentucky---Taken by a J W Williams photographer).
