Surnames: YONGUE, SERVENT, PAINE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/CAC.2ACI/393 Message Board Post: I just received the death cert. of WILLIAM WHERTER YONGUE, b 10 Dec 1875 and d 21 Aug 1943, Midvale, Washington Co., Idaho and found that he was born in Austin, Travis Co., Texas. I had known that he was born in Texas but didn't have a clue as to what city or county. His father was WILLIAM ALEXANDER YONGUE, 1847, Talladega Co., Al. to 1945, Boise, Idaho. W.A. Yongue married a Gertrude Servent (or Paine, as listed in Wm. Wherter's death cert.) in 1873 in LaGrange, Texas and Gertrude died in 1880 in Elm Creek, Troy, Texas. Finding out that W.W. Yongue was born in Travis County shows us why my husband's father was named TRAVIS YONGUE and/or after the Travis, who was an Alamo hero. Very interesting. If anyone has any more info about any of the above, it definately would be appreciated. Thank you.

I can only tell you that you were meant to get this information because my accidently reading your request the day after visiting that particular cemetery was an impressive synchronicity. I am not a geneologist but enjoy finding old cemetery's. There are 52 in Travis County alone. I belong to a group of ghost hunters and we go to these cemeteries at night and get photograph's of strange lights. It keeps us out of the bars and we have fun. In the meantime as a bonus, we get to learn about the interesting history of the Austin area. So if you know of any cemeteries with a reputation for being haunted then let me know. Grins, Renee

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/CAC.2ACI/380.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Take the William Cannon exit from I-35, and head West. Look for Circle S Road which is just prior to Congress. Turn South on Circle S. You will see a cemetary on the right side named Maria De La Luz which is not the cemetery that you want. Drive past Maria De La Luz and about two blocks further you will see the Masonic Cemetery. It is clearly marked. You will be able to open the heavy iron gate and drive a vehicle in if you like. Drive on the left side of the loop road and as you get to the far end of the loop which will be the Eastern end, then just as you clear the curve and start heading straight again, look for a tall obelisk on your left. If memory serves, I believe it is red granite. Anyway, it's a fairly small cemetary with a limited number of obelisks, so you will be able to locate this memorial fairly easily. Keep me updated on what you find, and let me know if this is the Texas Ranger White that you are searching for. Regards, Renee

I found this cemetary accidently just this week, and saw the gravesite that you are referring to here. It is an impressive memorial stone, and I remember reading the White name and the reference to him being a texas ranger. There are many White graves there. It is at the Masonic Cemetary in South Austin.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/CAC.2ACI/386 Message Board Post: My family name descends from a James Marshall who in 1754, when being granted land in Kershaw Dist. SC, stated that he had come lately from Penn. Over the past 5 years with the help of lots of folks, I have collected data on some 750 families that descend from this James. But I cannot get past James, who was a Capt in the Rev. War. I now believe to get past this James brick wall new technology is required. And it appears the new technology just might be DNA testing. Many of you have the same type of brick wall. Or there may be someone with the Marshall surname you have always wondered with about kinship. I would like to start a Marshall Surname DNA Project. If your surname is Marshall or something very similar, and would consider participating in the project please contract me at my e-mail address listed below. To learn more about the tests please go to www.familytreedna.com. I now have enough Marshall's interested to qualify for the $99 each gropup rate. This is for the 12 marker test.
