    1. Re: [TXTRAVIS] Register of births before 1903
    2. I have a list of the births that were registered between 1838 and 1878 although this was still an optional listing by parents. Also there might be a delayed birth certificate if the uncle filed for social security benefits. Have you checked that? Kay

Hall aka William or Billy Hall who was a deputy sheriff in Collin County killed while on a posse. It was written about in 2 books "Murder at the Corners" by Ray and "Collin County: Pioneering in North Texas" by Hall. It had something to do with the Lee-Peacock feud. I am trying to get his name on the national, state, and local memorials for officers killed in the line of duty and I need the obit. with the date of death, banner and date of the newspaper. There are no records in Collin County. I understand that the University has many old newspapers as the above authors did their research there. I live in the east so I can't do it. I would really appreciate this. Thanks and I'm hoping I hear from someone.

His wife, Ann A. "Addie" Downs, was born 27 April 1825 in Laurens Co. SC. She was the daughter of Samuel Downs and Elizabeth L. Jones of Laurens Co., SC. This couples marriage is listed as "DOWNS Adalade, HILL William 19 Nov 1844 Laurens Co. SC" in South Carolina Marriages A-F. Hill and his brother in law Thomas J. Downs served with the 18th Battalion Mississippi Cavalry, Company H "Peach Creek Rangers" during the civil war out of DeSoto Co., MS. There were two other Hills listed in this unit, Hill,J.W. and Hill, W.M., but have no idea ! if there is any connection. I have found this family in the 1870 Census of DeSoto Co., MS living in the Arkabutla area. In approx. 1878 the families of William A. Hill and Thomas J. Downs migrated to Travis Co., TX. They are found in the 1880 Census of Travis Co., TX living in the eastern rural area of Travis county. Both families are buried in the Hunter Cemetery of Travis Co. south of the Hornsby Bend area. The children of William A. Hill and Anna Adalaide "Addie" Downs were: A. D. Hill - b. abt.1847 MS Thomas. I. Hill - b. abt. 1852 MS William W. Hill - b. abt. 1857 MS Hugh S. Hill - b. abt. 1862 MS Mary C. Hill - b. 01 July 1864 MS Anna C. Hill - b. abt. 1865 MS Joseph Hill - b. 1869 MS Mary C. Hill married Duncan William McLaurin in Travis Co., TX. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Cemetery Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/CAC.2ACI/285.3 Message Board Post: My mother and I did a survey of Bratton Cemetery on January 9, 2003, which I have posted to my website at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~treebz65/cemeteries/texas/travis/bratton/bratton_cem.html. Your survey seems to mention some stones that we either missed or were unable to read (we are still kicking ourselves for forgetting the chalk). Also some may have gone by the time we got to it - you mention two BRATTON stones inside the iron fence and we only saw one there. I have put a link to your message board post on my web page. It's always good to have more than one source and be able to compare notes. Roxy Triebel

    1. [TXTRAVIS] Info Sought on William Turner family in Travis County, TX 1879-1880 Census
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Turner Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/CAC.2ACI/404 Message Board Post: My great-great-grandfather came to Austin, Travis Co, TX from Saline, Miller Co MO with his wife, Martha Harrison Turner and his youngest son, James Clyde Turner who later became a Texas Ranger. This shows up in the1870 or 1880 Census. We heard that he may have attended law school and maybe became a judge of some sort here. Was UT Austin law school taking students? What sort of judge would he have been? Did he hold an elected office? I also heard that he might have remarried here. We think he may have been a Blue Mason. The family would have been Baptist and in Austin, Travis Co, TX ,the trail goes cold! Someone told me he might be buried in the State Cemetery but I don't think he was a Confederate War veteran or any other kind of veteran and I don't know that he was elected to any public office. He would have been about 45 when he came to Texas. He was born in about 1825. If anyone has any information on any attorneys or judges from that time, please advise. There is the possibility he remarried and we have relatives surnamed Turner right here in Austin that we know nothing about. Thank you for any assistance in this matter!
