    3. > I have a question about the New Book that just came out. Can someone tell me what > time period this book cover's? Hello, Yes, the book covers the entire history of the county. There is a general history of the region prior to organization of Terry County in 1904, but most stories are from the time of organization to the present. We have many stories about the 1920s and 1930s, but I don't remember any Walls or Sheltons being in it. The first part of the book contains "Topicals" -- just little stories of interest, but most of the book (pp. 163 through 692) contains alphabetized family histories. I just checked the index and there are three listings for Wall and five for Shelton. However, those are just mentions of the name on each page. I did not find a family history for either Shelton or Wall. Sorry! 3. Laura Flanagan wrote: Does anybody have any memories or connections to this family? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Response: Yes, Chick Lee's wife, Mary, was my 3rd grade teacher. Also, a niece is my very good friend. Our new Terry County history book, compiled by the Terry County Historical Commission, a non-profit organization, has just been published, and it has some information about Mary's family, the Criswells. We begin distribution here in Brownfield tomorrow (Sunday, 17th). Chick Lee was an impressive artist. I wish he had lived long enough to do many more oil paintings than he did. I *think* maybe the elder Lee's (Chick's parents?) lived next door to us when I was very small. I remember an elderly couple who had one daughter living with them. They used to invite my sister and me over to entertain when they had visitors. I remember that we always sang "Coming in on a Wing and a Prayer" because WWII was going on. I was 8 when it was over. 1. [TXTERRY] Lee's in Brownfield/Tokio area
    2. Hi! I thought I would see if any one knows the family of Henry and Clemmie Lee. They lived in the area for many many years. Henry and Clemmie were my great grandparents. They had 12 kids-6 boys and 6 girls. One of the younger girls Clemmie Zora Lee was my grandmother. Wallace Lafayette Lee (also known as Chick) was the sheriff of Brownfield as well as the operator of the bus station. Does anybody have any memories or connections to this family? Thank you, Laura Flanagan

    1. extracted death certificates
    2. Hi Everyone. I just finished extracting these 200 death certificates. They are from LDS film #2218965. They come from Tarrant, Taylor, Terry, Titus, Tom Green, and Travis Counties. The first number is the number they were entered into the computer, packet is what packet from the series I have, Image # is similar to the page # on the film. The certificate #'s start at 36796 and end with 36987. Some of the cert #'s are the same, as there are corrected certificates. I will have the papers for a few more days, so if anyone wants a copy I will be happy to scan and send. Please put name and entry # in request. These are all I have at this time. 2. Donna
    3. Hello, I am proud to announce the creation of a new mail list called TX-Cemeteries. This list has the encouragement of Gerron S. Hite, Cemetery Preservation Coordinator in the History Programs Division of the Texas Historical Commission and he's excited at the opportunity to share his feelings about our cemetery preservation to a large group all at once Others that have been notified, Lee Campbell, Past Representative for the Texas State Genealogical Society {and my cousin} and her friend, Past President of the TSGS Wanda Donaldson. I've let all the following people know about the list and they may join from time to time. Yvonne Pickens, current President of the TSGS. Trey Holt, coordinator for the Texas GenWeb. Wyndell Taylor, creator of GA Cherokee County GenWeb page, {and my cousin}. <Smile> I just have a lot of cousins !!!! The main focus of this list will be to locate and catalogue our endangered cemeteries. Gerron Hite has obtained a new program to help us give our cemeteries "Historic Texas Cemetery Designation". He is willing to help us learn how to accomplish this designation. This will also be a topic for us to address. I am an experienced RootsWeb mail list admin. Currently I manage the mail list for VARoots, SC-Old Pendleton-District, and the Brand surname list. I am also experienced in the survey of large and small cemeteries. In addition to the topics above there will be discussions on how to preserve and restore old monuments with the help of a caretaker with over 25 years experience. To join the mail list simply send a message to TX-Cemeteries-L-request@rootsweb.com with only the word subscribe in the subject line and nothing else. If you prefer the Digest send a message to TX-Cemeteries-D-request@rootsweb.com with only the word subscribe in the subject line and nothing else. I look forward to seeing you there, Respectfully, donna brand

I'm not sure how long they will be gone, but I'll try to call her sister today and see if they still have some copies. I think they had a few left over, but I don't know if they still have them. -- Betty Dawn DuBose Hamilton Paternal: DuBose~Morgan~Smith~Pitts~Pynes~Hampton: SC>FL>AL>TX Maternal: Cook~Polk~Wooten~McDonald~Sowders~Rodgers: TN>TX Please look at our Family Mystery Album: http://home.att.net/~bhamilt/wsb.html mailto:bhamilt@worldnet.att.net

The second one is my web page and I'm learning web building. Right now I'm in the "fill-in-the-blank stage" so I haven't figured out how to put a great deal of history on my page. However, the Brownfield High School web building class did it for me, so people can see the Terry County history by clicking on that link on my page. I hope anyone who has ever lived in Terry County will send their family stories to me to be included in the new Terry County history book. The address and a bit of other information can be seen by clicking on the "about" tab. I've taken the photos of the Historical Marker ceremoney at the Brownfield Cemetery off, temporarily, but they will be back up soon, along with some more pictures. Thanks again for mentioning my web site and sending the one by Kathi (the first one above). It is GREAT, and I had not seen it before you sent it to the list.
