Hi, I'm new to this and it's so overwhelming. My mother, Patsy Ruth Barrett, was born on August 13, 1933, in Ft. Worth, Tarrant County. On her birth certificate, her mother's name, Odessa Davis, and her father, William James Barrett. Odessa's mother was Bertha Davis, and we have no other info on the Davis part of the family. We do know that at some point Bertha remarried to a McGill and either her husband had two children from his previous marriage, or they had two children. Unique names of Juanita and Ivanora, we don't know if they are McGills or Davis'. My mother is interested in finding some family roots and I'm helping her because I've got access to the Internet. I guess one of my first questions is back in 1933, did a woman have to be married to list the name of the father of a child, or could she just put a name down? I sure would appreciate any or all assistance possible. I live in South Carolina and I'm disabled so I can't get there. Sincerely, Karen Gravley
