    2. If you want company & regiment histories (where they fought, etc), then Hillsboro is one place you will want to check. However, you will not find individual service records there the way you expect. For TX records, you can write or email TX State Library. They have a great website with Confederate pension record indexes. You can order the record you want from there. They will send it with a bill. Or you can order it by snailmail. Never send money because it is unsolicited & they will return it. Send money after you get the record with the bill. If you are near the main Dallas library, they have all the TX Confederate records on film. It takes a little help to get started but well worth the trouble. Mesquite library & others will have the TX muster roll abstracts on film also. Worth looking for. NARA is not where you want to look for TX records UNLESS they were captured or killed in action. Only then will the record be in DC. If your ancestor was in the Trans MS Dept, there are no records. All those were burned at Shreveport at the end of the War Between the States for fear of what would be done to the officers if the Union found them. In that case, look for pensions or friend's pensions that your ancestor witnessed for. And the best way to start anywhere is to look for Broadfoot's Compiled Confederate Records Indexes. Many libraries have the set. Some records were missed but it sure helps to check it. Good luck. Linda McCain Stansell
