Is there anyone on this list who lives in Ft. Worth who would be willing to look up an obit for me. My grandmother, whom I never knew because she died when my mother was only 6 weeks old, Jewel Beatrice FOSTER Colston died October 12, 1935 in Ft. Worth. I've been told she died of "milk leg"? I would be very appreciative for any help. Thanks, Billie

I recently looked at all the great info. on the Tarrant County web pages. I tried to find the creek near the house where I was born, but was not able to identify it from the creek information there. I think my parents called it Bear Creek, and it was near Smithfield. If someone happens to know this creek, I would be interested in knowing its exact name. (I saw only a Little Bear Creek listed on the webpage info.) Also, can someone tell me what map would be best to use, to look this up myself? Is there anything detailed enough on the internet? Thanks for any information. Anelle McCarty Kloski
This is a nother picture taken by Mr. Froehner with Mrs. Froehner standing beside he tomestone. Notice the both pictures show the brake in the stone. Pictures taken in the 80's.
Does anyone know where Oak Grove in Tarrant County used to be? My great grandfather used to live there in 1882. If any one can help I would really appreciate it (directions?) I live in Tarrant County. Also, does anyone know where an Evans family home/cemetery might be located one and one half miles west of the courthouse? My great grandfather's brother, Capt. Sam Evans, lived there and I don't know where it was/is. If anyone has any information on this one as well, again, my family would be very grateful. Thanks!!!! Kim Dunaway stepaway@cyberramp.net
I am new to this list. I am searching for information on siblings and/or ancestors of my grandmother, Sarah Ellen BUTTS, b. 16 June 1863 in Tarrant Co. She married Jeff (or Jess) JONES and had one son Will. On 24 August, 1887, she married James Knox PORTER in Ft. Worth. They lived near Mansfield until early 1900 when they moved to Nolan Co., TX, where she died in 1953. Does anyone have access to marriage records for 1887 or know anything about the parents and/or siblings of Sarah Ellen BUTTS (Jones, Porter)? Thanks for any information you may have. --Nell (Porter) Howle
Dear Jean, In one of your E-Mail letters, I remember you or someone there wanting to know if we had other listings of people in cemeteries. While looking for the list I copied out of the Lonesome Dove Cemetery registor, I found the material about Allen Hill who is buried beside his wife Malinda. I hope you can use it and of course, it will probley need re-writting. Please use this material as you see fit. God Bless and take care, alot of us like and enjoy the hard work all of you are doing. James Manford Dwight. P.S. I will find that partical listing. There is more important material in there. Allen Hill Allen Hill is burried in the Lonesome Dove Cemetery in Grapevine, Tarrant County, Texas. He is burried along side Malinda Hill, who was his wife and my Great Grandmother by her first husband, George E. Dwight. There is little known about Allen. I have reason to beleve that his name included the name Eli but for now I can not prove it. But the following is what I do have for your approval. His name was Allen Hill, who was born June 3, 1839 in Ill.. He was the son of John T. Hill (b. 1805 or 1806 in N. C. and married July 17, 1829 in Lawrence Co., Alabama to Nancy Mc Gaughey Mc Cain, who was born 1805 or 1806 in Tennessee. They had William H. Hill (b. 1830 in Lawrence Co., Ala.); John H. Hill (b. Dec. 14, 1836 in Ala.); Eli Allen Hill (b. June 3, 1839 in Ill.); Sarah Jane Hill (b. Oct. 10, 1843 in Tippah Co., Miss.) and Lucinda Grace Hill (b. Dec. 23, 1845 in Tippah Co., Miss.) They moved to Upshur County, Texas in 1848, then to Grayson Co., Denton County, and settled in Tarrant county. (Letter from Mrs. Jeanette Hays, 2305 Sunshine Road, Pearcy, Ar., 71964, March 8, 1984 writes that her Great Grandfather (Eli Allen Hill had two childern named Amanda Jane Hill born May 22, 1872 (her Grandmother) and died in 1912 and Elmer Allen Hill born Aug. 11, 1883 and died May 20, 1954.) Allin's death is mentioned by his Step son Frank M. Dwight. The following is from Frank's letter which was written in 1890's at Willow Point, Wise County, Texas: When Frank came home from the Civil War, he found that his step-father, Allen Hill, had died. According to what his step son had written; Allen must have been a very kind person. Allen was a Campbilite by religus demonination. However, Allen would invite a Baptist preacher to his house so that all of the children could learn about the Bible. And that act left Francis with a lasting impression that followed him all the days of his life and as a result, his children were brought into the church. And that church was the Lonesome Dove Church. The Hill family buried in the Lonesome Dove Cemetery. I am moving back to Fort Worth with my daughter in the middle of August and am looking for help in finding a home to rent. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. If you have not checked the Tarrant County Page, you are passing up a great resource. http://www.rootsweb.com/~txtarran There on the main page is a link to "Cemeteries". Many of the Tarrant Co. cemeteries have been donated to this site......including (******ROB*****) the cemeteries in and around Mansfield. You will have to check each cemetery but there is a listing on the main cemetery page that names the cemeteries in each location. CHECK IT OUT ! Jean PS . . . if you have a Tarrant Co. Cemetery that you've inventoried or have permission from a publisher of such, that could be added to our site..........contact me - auntjean@promail.com This is how the info gets online. <G>
Rob - Know you've posted cemetery sites before so you did of course check Mansfield Cemetary on line? It seemes to be the largest!? There are others on line if I recall. Also, the state library takes request- and they have a Texas death index. Don't remember the url off hand but it's in the Texas genweb resources. Linda, Oregon too.
Hi folks, Does anybody have cemetery books for Tarrant County? My Great-Grandfather and Great-Grandmother, both died there in Mansfield, but I don't have any dates for them or know which cemetery they were interred in. Here is all I know about them: Louis Rickman WILLIAMS Born: 13 March 1876, Bethpage, TN Died: After 1912, Mansfield, Tarrant County, TX Frances "Fanny" MILLER (I guess she would be listed as a WILLIAMS) Born: Somewhere in Georgia Died: Mansfield, Tarrant County, TX If somebody knows of a way to systematically check for them in the cemeteries of Tarrant county, I would be most appreciative. Hi, Does anyone know of a mail list for Dallas County? I can't find one on Rootsweb or anywhere else. Thanks, Claudia Cox Welton Colleyville, TX
I was planning on going to the library soon...maybe today or tomorrow and will look this obituary up for him. I received this information from Nannette Johnston <cljohn95@mindspring.com> >I contacted the Fort Worth Library for an obituary. I was told that you >write Alex Early, % Forth Worth Public Library, Genealogical Local History >Unit, 300 Taylor Street, Fort Worth, Texas 76102. Especially if one is not even sure when, or where they died. For example, I just did a search of the Social Security Death Index on Ancestry and found nothing regarding the death of any Busby in Texas in 1997, much less an Argle Busby in Jan 1997 in Arlington, TX. What Social Security Death Index did you use to find that he had died, and the date? Most likely his obituary, if there was one, would have been sent to his home town newspaper. Do you know where that might be?
