So much of what I have found has been from this publication. Janis Janis
In the past, the Fort Worth Genealogical Society had some members who would do look ups if it did not entail a lot of work. You might go to the genweb page and ask for help. Also, I sent in questions to the Society and the editor would answer them in the Society Quarterly. I bet some of this information about what is available has been printed up. Surely some Footprints readers know.
Hello Jacob, I am fairly new to researching genealogy but I am going to the Arkansas History Commission at Little Rock, Arkansas, tomorrow (well, it is 12:44 am here so I guess that would be today). I plan on doing some research on my DuPuy line who has a couple born in Tarrant County around 1886. I will try to remember to see if there is anything on the name you mentioned. If so, I will send it thru this board later in the day when I return. Births should be recorded with the mother's name, I would think, if there were no acknowledged father. Is the name you provided the last name of the mother? Clarify the mother's name and the son's name and I will be happy to see if I can discover anything for you. On the main Tarrant Co. Page http://www.rootsweb.com/~txtarran/ Under "Tarrant Co. Links" you will find 2 links to cemeteries. The first is just "Cemeteries" and is a collection of information, some pictures, some inscriptions and some links to maps of various Cemeteries in Tarrant Co. The second is "Cemeteries in Tarrant County" which is a link to a national Map site and to the page which lists current cemeteries and provides links to maps of the area. Both links are valuable...............but different. Just thought you might want to know! Jean
Hello Where would I be able to search to locate an illegitimate ancestor. He was born in Texas and I think that his mother's name may have been Pam Wagnor. Janis, >You mentioned that some early probate records do exist. I know that I found >reference to a 1859 probate record in the Footprints, that I am interested in >sending for the original record do you know where these early records are >located and who I should write to? Years ago I obtained copies at the County Clerks Office. They had a filmed copy and the originals were not stored on premises. However, I believe you can now view the film at the Ft Worth Public Library. I'm not sure what provision they make to help us via USMail. Check: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txtarran/source/research.htm#library >I know I wrote to the Tarrant County Clerk on another ancestor who died in >April 1880 and they sent back a form letter that saying that they didn't find >anything in Probate. Is there another place I should write? I am not sure about this........but wonder if you also asked them to look for a WILL? Seems they would both be together - but "it ain't necessarily so". I don't recall about the Tarrant co. but know that in another TX county, I found a will in the "Will Book" for one ancestor and a Probate Packet indexed in another book altogether for a second ancestor. Maybe someone with more Tarrant Experience can help us on this???? Jean

Jean, You mentioned that some early probate records do exist. I know that I found a reference to a 1859 probate record in the Footprints, that I am interested in sending for the original record do you know where these early records are located and who I should write to? I know I wrote to the Tarrant County Clerk on another ancestor who died in April 1880 and they sent back a form letter that saying that they didn't find anything in Probate. Is there another place I should write? On the tax records how do you obtain these? I wouldn't mind transcribing other years for the Tarrant Page if I could get them. Think it would help all our research if we could locate and share records. Think I will dig and see what things I might have that I can share with others researching in Tarrant Co. and post odds and ends if that is all right with you? I know I have some pages from different books, etc., that have other surnames on them that might help someone else. Janis
>What other records are available for Tarrant County for the time of >1852-1867? >There are only a few Tax records, there isn't an 1860 census record, it >is missing. Any other ideas for information sources? This IS a VERY GOOD Question !! I have suspected for years it was a conspiracy by my ancestors to block my exploring their business........ (ha Ha!) The 1860 census is missing and the court house burned in 1876 distroying many of the records we need. Some early probate records do still exist - this is worth checking if your person died during those years. I have found the Tax records VERY good and quite useful. What you find online on the Tarrant Co. page is only those I had an opportunity to abstract. There was more......much more. The Ft Worth Genealogy Society's Quarterly publications have a lot of good information that may be in other books but I've not run into it. So.......where have YOU found helpful info for Tarrant Co research??
What other records are available for Tarrant County for the time of 1852-1867? There are only a few Tax records, there isn't an 1860 census record, it is missing. Any other ideas for information sources? Later, JNK

Hello all, Am hoping someone out there has heard of my gg grandfather, F.G. BUTLER... I'm searching for information on my gg grandfather Felix Grundy/Gundy BUTLER aka F.G. b. 22 FEB 1837 in AR, d. 15 Apr 1905 in Vernon, Wilbarger Co., TX according to family bible records. F.G. BUTLER married my gg grandmother Malissia Elsa Lucilla Ann DILL 3 SEP 1872 in Jack Co., TX according to marriage records. Malissia DILL was born 13 NOV 1854 in AL, d. 11 Nov. 1926, Vernon, Wilbarger Co., TX. Her father, William B. DILL was born in TN, her mother, Eliza L. AMILTOU? in AL. My gg grandmother had previously been married to John DALTON d. 1871 Tarrant Co., TX, son of Thomas DALTON b. ca 1795 VA, d. 01 JAN 1873, Tarrant Co., TX. The Jack Co., TX probate records indicate F.G. BUTLER was awarded guardianship of DALTON, John, Minor, 18 mo. of age, 7 AUG 1873. I've located F.G. BUTLER in Parker Co., TX 1880 & Tarrant Co., TX 1900 census records. Census information varies for him. There is a contradiction about the birth place of his parents. 1880 census indicates the FBP as VA, 1900 indicates FBP as MO. I've also located F.G. BUTLER as an original land owner in Parker Co., TX. However, I have been unsuccessful in locating any information on his parents or siblings. My great aunt, now 84 recalls my great grandmother telling stories about grandfather Felix G. BUTLER. My g. grandmother tearfully recalled that her daddy wandered around with a nap sack and came occasionally to see the younger sons he left behind. His history is elusive and a remains a mystery. Children by Felix Grundy BUTLER and Malissia Elsa Lucilla Ann DILL DALTON Mary BUTLER b. 1874 Malissia Josephine BUTLER b. 1876, Parker Co., TX ** My g. grandmother Robert Nickadamus BUTLER b. 1879 William Henry BUTLER b. 1882 Maude BUTLER b. 1883 James BUTLER b. 1887 Alexander "Aleck" BUTLER b. 1890 Infant Twin Sister to Alexander Minnie Lee BUTLER b. 1894 Infant Twin Brother to Minnie According to the 1900 Parker Co., TX Census: F.G. MS is residing with his 23 y/o wife Josie (Malissia Josephine BUTLER) b. JUL 1876, TX, their 4 y/o son Daniel b. FEB 1896 TX and his father-in-law BUTLER, Felix, b AR, fbp. MO, MBP. MO. According to the 1900 Tarrant Co., TX Census: Malissia (DILL) DALTON BUTLER is the head of household and lists herself as widowed, mother of 11 children 8 living. Living in the household with her are her sons, Willie, James, Alex and daughter Minnie L. Residing next to her is her DALTON son and wife: DAULTON [sic], John 28 y/o head of household with his 17 y/o wife Maud b. Apr. 1883 in KS - married 1 year. And the next resident is her BUTLER daughter and husband: DARNELL, Willis, 19 y/o head of household b. May 1881 in TN with his 17 y/o wife Maude b Oct. 1883, TX - married 1 year. This information is all that I have on grandfather Felix G. BUTLER. Any information anyone may have in assisting me with this line would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Debi Collin Co., TX
I am looking for help with my Powell/Shirley/Blount connection. My gggrandfather married Martha L. (Shirley) Blount in Tarrant Co., on Dec. 24, 1891. Martha had previously been married to a unknown Blount and they had one child Etta Blount. My grandfather had also been married previously and had three children. His name was John Wesley Powell. Can anyone tell me if either of these two families are on the 1880 census in Tarrant Co? Or if there is any information on this Mr. Blount? I assume he must have died there. Dont suppose she went to far with a small baby? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Gina McGuire
