For Mike who was inquiring about TXdeath records. At one time the TX State Library would photocopy the part of the index containing the surname you were inquiring about. At that time they charged 10 cents per page with a minimum of $1.00. I don't know if they still have that service but you might contact them and find out. I believe on their WebPage they have an email address where you can send them questions. It is worth a try. Ellen
Mike, I just sort of wondered upon a msg about this, but I can atest that this has done wonders for my own research. The death certificates will run you $9 each. I did an inter-library loan with them while I was in Okinawa, and did it through the library there. Didn't cost me a thing, but that's because they did that sort of thing then. If the library doesn't support that sort of thing, you'll pay the cost, which aren't much, I don't believe. But you can borrow up to 5 rolls. Just be sure and make copies of al the surnames you are researching, as you can always come back to them instead of having to do another loan. It's a good investment to have. I've got several folders I've made, broken down into different surnames. I don't know what else to say except that it has really helped my research. The whole film is broken down into last name, first name, county where the death certificate was filed, then the number, which is what you use to make your request. You'll need a copy of you I.D. (driver's license) to go with your request. You'll find everything you need on the web-page that was just sent to you, for the TX State Library Archives. Good luck, and oh yes, I believe you can have the film up to 30 days, so that helps. Good luck!!! And definitely do this! You'll not regret it!! Teresa
Mike, There is a microfilm called the Texas Death Index, with a list of all who died between 1903-1950 I believe, it is done in alphabetical order so it makes it easy to find where that person died and gives you a certificate number and the date. You then can write, call, or email the Department of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics, 1100 W. 49th St., P.O. Box 12040, Austin, Texas, 78711, Tel. 512-458-7111, email : register@stats.tdh.state.tx.us URL: http://www.tdh.state.tx.us/bvs/t_bvs.htm I am not sure, but think if you have the person's name and are sure of the date of death, they will send you a death certificate if they find a match, but to avoid wasting money you can check this microfilm first to make sure he is there. Might be more info on the web page. Hope someone who has done this will jump in and help you more than I can. Janis

For all who have received "test" mailings about older queries...... And for all who have not...... I've make some improvements to the "other queries" (those that were present when the new query system went online in March). First each submitter was emailed and bounces had the query removed. Second, the remaining queries were set up with a surname index! Yep! Now, you can get to the queries containing the surnames you are interested in much easier. Check it out......if you discover problems with it.......please let me know. Http://www.rootsweb.com/~txtarran Just follow the "Query" links. Jean

Hi To answer questions I have been receiving: Footprints is a quarterly journal published by the Fort Worth Genealogical Society (FWGS). They print historical and genealogical information from cemeteries, bible records, old letters, marriage books, newspapers, the list of sources are endless. To receive their publication you must be a member for a mere $18.00 a year. FWGS is online and can be found at http://www.Chrysalis.org/business/fwgen/default.htm or you can follow the link on the Tarrant County Page. Click on Tarrant County Resources go down to Footprints and click on more information. Check with your library for back issues of Footprints, this has been my best source of information on my ancestors. Someone posted on the list that FWGS is soon to release a CD of all their back issues that is highly searchable. This will be a great help for all of us researching in Tarrant County and for those who's library doesn't carry the Footprints. I know nothing about this CD but if and when it is announced in Footprints or the FWGS newsletter I will post the information on the list. I do not live in Tarrant County so I cannot help anyone with research. The FWGS and the Pioneer Rest Cemetery Ass. are joining together to collect, compile, and publish information related to those interred in Pioneer Rest Cemetery. Pioneer Rest Cemetery is the oldest in Fort Worth. So we will have this to look forward to. A big Thank You to Jean who provides this mail list and the Tarrant County Page so that we may share information. Without her hard work none of this would be possible. After visiting other county pages, I am so proud of the Tarrant County Page, she has done an excellent job. Janis

Later this year the Fort Worth Genealogical Society will be publishing all of their back issues of Footprints, their quarterly, on a CD. The CD will be available from the Society at a nominal cost. Forty years of queries, articles, and articles, all available on one CD!
On the main Tarrant Co. Page http://www.rootsweb.com/~txtarran/ Under "Tarrant Co. Links" you will find 2 links to cemeteries. The first is just "Cemeteries" and is a collection of information, some pictures, some inscriptions and some links to maps of various Cemeteries in Tarrant Co. The second is "Cemeteries in Tarrant County" which is a link to a national Map site and to the page which lists current cemeteries and provides links to maps of the area. Both links are valuable...............but different. Just thought you might want to know! Jean
