    1. [TXTARRAN-L] STOKES Obituary
    2. This was in the Fort Worth newspaper, 1935 " Robert Paul STOKES, 77, died Saturday afternoon at his residence, 1502 Lee Ave. He will be buried this after noon at 4 o'clock from his residence. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery." This was Robert Paul Stokes, Junior, who died May 8, 1935. Husband of Della Isabella JACKSON, and father of 4 surviving daughters: Maudie BURKE, Mabel STEVENS, Ethel OGLE, and Jessie Mae FERRELL. I have never found another obituary with details. Robert had been bedfast with crippling arthritis. His parents were Mary Jane JOHNSTON and Robert Paul STOKES, Sr, both born in GA. B. Ferrell

    3. Hello everyone, I finally was able to stay on-line long enough to get some work done. I've have had six power outages this evening. I have just uploaded some remodeled pages and a couple of new ones. In addition to the query forum, Tarrant County now has a Bible Records Forum and an Obituaries Forum. Just as the query forum these new forums allow you to post records directly to the forum and the surnames from them are indexed for the search engine. There is also a Biograhies Forum for Tarrant County that someone has put up. I'll have to get the URL for that posted on our Home page. After these new forums are broken in, there are three others that we can put into operation; Wills, Deeds and Pension Records. Go to the Home Page and follow the links to the new forums: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txtarran/ - Rob

Your ancestors appear and disappear from a county without any clue as to where they came from or where they've gone. Jane Routt Power knows the problem. She will present a case study at the November 30 meeting of the The Fort Worth Genealogical Society. Also on the agenda: Installation of the 1999 FWGS officers. This meeting will take place Monday, 7:00pm at the University of North Texas, Health Science Center, room 108, 3500 Camp Bowie Blvd. at Montgomery. All are welcome to attend.

    3. My last message announcing the update of the Look-Ups Page has sparked some interest. Barbara says that she received 6 or 7 requests the first day. I only got one. Now I have the pleasure of announcing that the page has once again been updated because we have a new member of the Look-Ups Volunteer Staff, Linda Surratt-White. She has volunteered to look-ups in "Cemeteries of Northeast Tarrant County" and "Grapevine Area History." Our Look-Ups Page is beginning to come to life. Won't you join the staff? 1. [TXTARRAN-L] Restricting access to the mailing list
    2. Rob Yoder
    3. Hello everybody, The folks at RootWeb are talking about resetting the status of all mailing lists to that of "closed" (restricted). They are in a never ending battle trying to keep spam from the lists. They have caught a dozen or so spam messages since I became listowner about a month ago. What does this mean for us? As near as I can tell from the posts, the biggest change you will see is that only subscribers to the list will be able to post. I cannot forsee any problems with that. It appears that subscribing and unsubscribing to the list may become less automatic. There may be a short period of adjustment while I learn how to operate functions of the list smoothly. This could mean a short delay when subbing or unsubbing. So, if you see messages in this forum stating that the mailing list is now closed, don't be alarmed. They will only be restricting access to subscribers only. - Rob Yoder - Listowner TXTARRAN, Tarrant County Texas GenWeb

    1. [TXTARRAN-L] 1884 adoption: THOMAS
    2. Still looking for ANY info on ANY adoption that took place in TX around 1880-84 My gggrandmother Gracie THOMAS was put up for adoption in TARRANT,CO. in 1884 at the age of 4 by her mother Mrs.Annie THOMAS but the adoption records make no mention of biological father just adoptive parents Dick and Nancy Matthews AKA David S. McHERD and Nannie SHAWVER. There were also siblings given away but I know nothing about their names or new families. Graci was born after the 1880 census so there is no connecting her to a family there. Gracie said she was part Indian but did not say what tribe. I found a death certificate of an 1884 death of an Annie THOMAS buried in the city cem. I do not know if this is her. Death cert. said she was from MO. Thank you, Brigitte

    1. [TXTARRAN-L] HALTOM/DUNCAN families
    2. Ken Reynolds
    3. Hello all, This is my first post to this List. I am searching for my G GM Lular (Lula) HALTOM's family. Lular married William Obadiah WYNNE and they lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area before the turn of the century. Since there is a Haltom City in the area, I have narrowed my search for her parents there. (Originally called BIRDVILLE: Now Haltom City. Founded in the 1840s and county seat in 1849). Can anyone tell me anything about Haltom City or the founders? Here is what I have on Lular's parents: 1 Ebenezer Haltom . +Paralee Ann Duncan .... 2 Lular Haltom b: 1865-1867 in Springtown, Parker Co., Texas d: 1945 in Cleveland Co., Oklahoma ........ +William Obadiah Wynne b: 1859 in Wright Co., Missouri d: 1942-1943 in Norman, Cleveland Co., Oklahoma I did find on Tarrant Co land records and tax lists of 1863 & 64, a William E. Haltom. Could this be Ebenezer or another relative? I also found a Thomas Duncan listed on the Tarrant Co tax rolls for 1854. Not sure if he was related to my GG GM Paralee Ann Duncan. Any help on this family greatly appreciated. Grace Reynolds in CA
